I re-share this with purpose….. this struck a nerve with me because I’ve heard it before from other Safety Professionals….
In the Safety Profession, we often try to influence the thought that safety is “everybody’s job,” or that “(insert principal leader) is ultimately responsible for safety,” to promote accountability and encourage engagement.
Be mindful of your words. As I often tell other Safety Professionals, you stand in the shadows of those that came before you. Because your operational peers have likely have heard this from another Safety Pro in their time, when encountering an issue.
With that being said, be part of the solutions. Work with your operational counterparts to understand the process. Identify risk as early as possible and bring solutions to the table.
THAT is how we, as Safety Professionals, can be viewed and utilized as peers and resources, and bring true value, instead of being obstacles.

1moThis sequence was my favorite part of the whole interview. To view anxiety as a catalyst for success is a game changer.
