On Friday May 24th, the birthday of the kubernetesio account on X (the official account of the Kubernetes project) was changed to reflect the date of the public release of Kubernetes (6 June 2014) ahead of the upcoming anniversary. The account was subsequently locked for being underage. A ticket has been opened with X. We appreciate the community's patience and understanding while we work to resolve this issue. UPDATE: The kubernetesio account on X is back online!

Unlocking the potential of your organizations data, while keeping our digital world secure - APAC Telecom & 5G Market Leader
Happy birthday K8! Kubernetes has finally cracked double figures in terms of age. Luckily it is not yet a rambunctious teenager and is still finding its way in the digital world. Will it graduate to fulfil its full potential or will it become lost in the maze of digital evolution like many before it - I still remember you DR DOS and your attempt to bridge the PC DOC and MS DOS ecosystems. #container #k8 #kubernetes #operatingsystems https://lnkd.in/gsF4CPFQ

10 Years of Kubernetes - on this anniversary, we've looked back at the beginnings, from the very first commit to the popularisation of containers, going through the history of not only Kubernetes but the entire cloud-native ecosystem and community. Milestones, challenges, growing pains, successes, and above an history of growing community involvement. Do give it a read, and happy KuberTENes :D https://lnkd.in/dDCBFaP4

Kubernetes 1.29, known as "Mandala (The Universe)", introduced a range of enhancements focusing on security, operational efficiency, and resource management. Some of the key features and improvements: ReadWriteOncePod PersistentVolume Access Mode: This stable feature ensures that a PersistentVolumeClaim (PVC) with the ReadWriteOncePod access mode can only be read or written by a single pod across the entire cluster. This addresses issues related to multiple pods accessing the same volume, which could be problematic for applications requiring exclusive write access for data safety. Node Volume Expansion Secret Support for CSI Drivers: Now generally available, this feature allows CSI drivers to require secrets during node volume expansion. This is essential for scenarios like expanding encrypted block storage or performing validations requiring backend storage system credentials. KMS v2 Encryption at Rest: This stable feature brings improvements in performance, key rotation, health check & status, and observability for encrypting persisted API data at rest in Kubernetes clusters. Gateway API Reaches 1.0: This stable feature is the eventual successor to the Ingress API, offering more expressive and extensible capabilities for advanced traffic management. Sidecar Containers (Beta): This feature enhances the management of sidecar containers, commonly used for network proxies or logging systems, by enabling restartable init containers and improving the termination process for sidecars. Transition from SPDY to WebSockets (Alpha): Kubernetes 1.29 starts the transition from SPDY to WebSockets for API server communications, aiming to improve the reliability and maintainability of Kubernetes communications. Structured Authorization and Authentication Configuration (Alpha): These features provide a more maintainable and secure approach to managing authorization and authentication in Kubernetes, enabling more efficient implementation of complex schemes. Reduction of Secret-Based Service Account Tokens (Beta): This feature reduces reliance on long-lived secret-based service account tokens, aligning with the trend towards short-lived, just-in-time credentials. Ensure Secret Pulled Images (Alpha): This security enhancement ensures that container images are always pulled using Kubernetes secrets specific to the Pod using them, thereby maintaining the integrity of workloads. Support for User Namespaces (Alpha): This feature enhances security by allowing more granular control over containerized processes, contributing to better isolation and reduced risk of privilege escalation attacks. Resource Metrics Endpoint (Stable): This feature exposes node resource metrics, improving resource management and enhancing security by enabling operators to detect and prevent resource starvation. Pod Lifecycle Sleep Action (Alpha): This addition introduces a sleep action to delay the termination of pods, aiding in debugging and ensuring graceful shutdown of services.

Since joining Spacelift, I've noticed a common skepticism around using Terraform due to recent license changes. Before my arrival, we shared insights on why transitioning to OpenTofu is beneficial. TL;DR: - Evaluate the risks of sticking with Terraform - Stay cautious of future license modifications and their impact - OpenTofu ensures continuity with 100% backward compatibility, easy migration, and growth predictability - OpenTofu was donated to the Linux Foundation, guaranteeing open-source stability - Backed by a community-driven approach with over 20 engineers focusing on enhancements Interested in switching? Spacelift, a part of OpenTofu's steering committee, can assist your organization with the migration. Learn more:(https://lnkd.in/eAQSCKUq) #terraform #opentofu #spacelift #IaC
