Proudly standing alongside fellow supporters, PSECU is committed to the fight against cancer and the invaluable work of the American Cancer Society. In sports, as in life, unity and determination pave the path to victory. The fight against cancer embodies these principles, relying on collective efforts to make meaningful strides in research, patient support, and awareness. While the basketball court serves as the arena for tomorrow's game, the real battleground lies in our collective resolve to make a difference. Together with our partners and sponsors, including the American Cancer Society, we contribute to a cause greater than ourselves. Through initiatives like the annual golf tournament, where we proudly serve as a presenting sponsor, we've witnessed the power of community coming together. This #MemberMonday we’re excited to introduce you to our Rachael Emerick, MBA, CSW, an AVP of Sales Operations & Enablement at Kemper as well as our own Sales Director. Read on to learn about Rachael’s motivation and why she’s dedicated to the American Cancer Society mission.  What inspires you to support the American Cancer Society through its Associate Board of Ambassadors (ABOA)? I support this cause in memory of my loved ones who have been touched by cancer. I aim to carry on their legacy of impact and to bring our world one step closer to making cancer a thing of the past. What is your favorite memory from being an ABOA member? Attending my first Discovery Ball and Skyline Soiree in 2023. That was my first full year on the ABOA board so I’m looking forward to experiencing these events for a second time. When you think about your time on the ABOA, what are you most proud of? I'm proud to have spread the ACS's mission and impact to my personal and professional communities. If you could have dinner with 3 living celebrities (all together), who would they be? Dax Shepherd, Dan Levy, and Jane Fonda. If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be? Provence If you could see one movie again for the first time, what would it be and why? Crazy, Stupid, Love – to relive the first experience of the plot twist. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? Act like the person you want to become.

Two years ago, I was tasked with reviewing and updating Bowel Cancer UK’s tribute fund offering. Stage 1: I began by carrying out an intense data gathering excercise; looking at years of in-memory donating behaviours, donor profiles, tribute fund vs non-tribute fund lifetime values, retention rates, tribute-fund activity types, etc. It was a mammoth task that took all summer. By the time I’d finished gathering, analysising and summarising the data, I felt I’d earnt a masters degree in Raiser’s Edge and Excel! (Speaking of degrees, thanks god I did 3 years of Statistics at university…that served me WELL here…) Stage 2: To understand the data and analysis in the broader context of in-memory giving across the sector, we enlisted the the help of Legacy Voice. Using my data work, their knowledge, and qualitative interviews of our in-memory supporters, they produced an incredible report. It told us how we were doing compared to other charities, who our in-memory tribute fund audience was and what resonated with them. Stage 3: We now had all the information we needed to begin designing our new tribute fund product. Enter Lark (see below). Lark had just finished helping the Public Fundraising team to create their own tone of voice as well as design our bespoke, mass participation events. We loved their work already, they understood our brand and we were curious to see how they’d approach a project that had to be so sensitive. They were amazing. As you can see from their post, our new Star of Hope Tribute Pages* convey a sense of peace and hope, in equal measure - just what I wanted. Our supporters have given us beautiful feedback and we can’t wait for this product to grow, giving those who’ve lost a loved one to bowel cancer an everlasting place to celebrate their life. Stage 4: I want to thank MuchLoved for hosting our tribute fund product and Sally Swann for helping us implement all our new designs and features. They’re a brilliant platform and team, who I’ve always enjoyed working with. *Star of Hope Tributes Pages and not Star of Hope Tribute Funds, because turns out from the research, people have no idea what a “tribute fund” is!

I am amazed by how many of my fellow Allspringers have joined the Expect Miracles Foundation - Financial Services Against Cancer distance challenge in 2024 – we are at 434 Strong! It is a cause close to my heart, taking my dad way to early. It is designed to make a difference where 100% of participant-raised dollars through the Distance Challenge goes to cancer research as well as financial assistance for young adult cancer survivors. I can appreciate how many of us have our specific charities, and that is totally understandable. …so here’s my simple ask: Just “like” this post. That’s all. No strings attached. I have > 4k contacts on LinkedIn and if just 25% of those contacts “likes” this post, it will then go to all of their contacts also….think of the awareness campaign that we will create to fight this awful disease with the much needed research that the worlds best scientists are working on now. In a world where challenges loom large, the power of collective resilience shines brighter than ever. The recent Dolphins Challenge Cancer event is a prime example of this strength, rallying 6,702 individuals to raise an impressive $12 million. This huge effort beat last year's amount and reached the target of $75 million for the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center earlier than expected! It's incredible to witness such a phenomenal success. It is a testament to the unstoppable spirit of the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium leadership and each participant who turned adversity into victory together. Their collective resilience has powered a movement that's met one of the most ambitious donation goals in sports history, showing the world what's possible when we unite for a common cause. "One team. One fight." The resilience, unity, and strength displayed are truly inspiring. Stephen D. Nimer, M.D., put it well when he said, "Thanks to the unwavering support from the South Florida community and our amazing partnership with the Miami Dolphins, we've been able to achieve so much at Sylvester, pushing the boundaries of cancer research." When you focus your efforts on a goal, you're bound to succeed. Well done, Miami Dolphins!
