An Ode to Expats on the 4th of July! 🇺🇸 🇬🇧🍻🌭☀️🚲🌊 🎇 Being across the pond on the 4th of July brings a mix of emotions. I love my life in the UK—the charm of the cobblestone streets, the history that seems to appear from every corner, and the politeness and dry humour that infuses daily interactions. My life is here and I wouldn't have it any other way. Yet, on days like this, being away tugs at my heart. I miss the sunshine first and foremost, but the loudness of Independence Day, the big celebrations, and the patritisim. The neighbourhood's, where everyone get's together in the cul-de-sac, shooting fireworks with a red solo cup in hand surrounded by friends and family. The whole day is filled with laughter. The ridiculousness of friends and neighbours dressed head-to-toe in red, white, and blue. Top hats, socks, Uncle Sam beards, you name it. So many have an infectious enthusiasm, those are the memories that will always brings a smile to my face. I think back to summers riding bikes to the pool, the scent of hot dogs and hamburgers through the air and indulging in too much booze... Those are the days of that you will never forget when you are away. Those are the days that bring us together. Today, it's also general election day in the UK. The process still baffles me a bit, so different from the American system I grew up with. Yet, there's a civility here, a quiet dignity to the way the British handle their politics (I know some of you will disagree) It's a contrast to the bombastic atmosphere in America. This ode is for all Expats, who carry a little piece of home in their hearts. Let's make new traditions while always remembering the old, navigating a life that bridges two worlds. And on days like today, we remember, we celebrate, and we continue to find our place in the world. PS- I know I posted this on July 5th. I needed a photo from last night 😉 #merica #uk #4thofjuly #expats #usuk
