This Tuesday, we kickstarted our D&I Fireside Chat series, a quarterly interactive forum featuring leaders who have broken glass ceilings and forged success in the technology industry. In our first edition of this series, we explored the theme of “Celebrating trailblazing women in tech: Pathways to success”. With the growing conversations around artificial intelligence in the industry, we welcomed Frincy Clement, Principal Data Scientist, ADP and Ivey Chiu, Program Manager - Special Projects and Innovation, TELUS as our panelists, both of whom are trailblazers in the field and serve as inspiring role models for women in technology. Here’s a snapshot of what they had to share: “If you look at any AI system, humans have a lot of influence. AI algorithms are built around how humans think, and that includes our inherent beliefs and biases. Having a diverse team improves creativity and inclusivity in the decisions we make. We’ll think of things we never thought about before because we have new perspectives in the group. In other words, to build a diverse and inclusive future of AI, we need to have more diversity in AI leadership." – Frincy Clement “It takes experience to recognize microaggressions or unconscious biases as a woman in AI. You may not realize it until days or weeks after it occurred, when you can't go back to address it. You can only move forward and address it if it comes up again." – Ivey Chiu A tremendous thank you to all our team members for your thoughtful questions, our team for working diligently to organize this experience, and most importantly, our two talented panelists. #ArtificialIntelligence #AI #TeamTELUS #LetsMakeTheFutureFriendly #WomenInSTEM

Looking back on the enlightening sessions at Web Summit 2023 in Lisbon with Lara Agneter, here are my key reflections: 🤖 Diverse perspectives and complex pathways in regulating AI Discussions highlighted the challenges and necessity of regulating AI, revealing a spectrum of viewpoints on how to approach this imperative issue. 🔍 Balancing trending AI topics with vital governance While exciting talks on cutting-edge AI applications and use cases were rampant, there was a lack of emphasis on the criticality of governance and robust data management practices. 👩💼 Shifting dynamics in the workforce GenAI is starting to shed some light on how we're moving from "thunking" (as Cassie Kozyrkov coins it) to "thinking" - impacting the very fabric of our operating model. 👩💻 Empowering 'Women in Tech' A positive and inspiring aspect was the presence of women at the conference, particularly through the 'Women in Tech' initiative and many diverse speakers. I'm eager to apply my insights and continue to advise clients in their transformative journey within Data & AI! #WebSummit2023 #AI #Data #FutureOfWork #AIGovernance #AIOperatingModel #WomeninTech

❌ Creative women, stop saying you are "bad at data". ❌ It is a lie. Data by itself is useless. Accessing it, extracting it, aggregating it, even analyzing is becoming increasingly automated, shifting the focus to what really matters: The ability to intersect the data into trends into meaningful insights that drive action in your business. Just because you don't "know" Excel, IRI, or whatever the latest AI data platform doesn't discount your talent and contribution. The real skill is taking that data and creating a story with facts, implications, and strategies to move forward. Creative minds, male or female, do that exceptionally well, but all too often, I see creative women removing themselves from the conversation because they aren't the technical experts. That needs to stop. It stops with leaders ensuring everyone's voice is heard. It starts with a simple comment in a meeting: "What are your thoughts?" and then listening to everyone. #ai #data #womenintech #womeninfinance #cpg

Just finished an eye-opening read: "Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men" by Caroline Criado-Perez. It's fascinating to see concrete data revealing how a world predominantly designed by men impacts women's needs —from cell phone sizes to seat belts, and even medication. What struck me most is how this bias extends into the digital realm, particularly in AI. With the rise of femtech, it's encouraging to witness innovations addressing these gaps. But it also highlights the urgency of ensuring female data isn't overlooked in this AI era. Excited to delve deeper into discussions and actions that challenge these biases and promote inclusivity in design and technology. #InvisibleWomen #Femtech #DataBias #InclusiveDesign #AI
