Calling all high school juniors! 🎓 Junior year is crucial - the time when everything matters more. 📚 Start prepping for your next chapter - COLLEGE. 🎒 Suddenly, college is a reality, and grades/tests are vital. 📝 2nd semester might stress you, but staying organized and prepared can make it smooth and stress-free. Here are some tasks you can do to keep on top and stay organized: 1️⃣ Make a list of majors, careers, and schools that interest you 2️⃣ Attend college fairs and open houses 3️⃣ Plan college visits this summer 4️⃣ Sign up for a Test Prep program to increase your test scores 5️⃣ Register for one of our FREE Practice ACT - SATs 6️⃣ Take the ACT or SAT during the summer 7️⃣ Meet with your school counselor to plan senior year 7️⃣ Make a list of teachers, counselors, employers, and other adults who would gladly write letters of recommendations 8️⃣ Start looking for a summer job or internship 9️⃣ Most importantly, enjoy your friends and school activities! The vast majority of high school graduates with intellectual disabilities do not continue to post-secondary education. There are a few programs like ours that can make that a possibility for these young adults. FIU Embrace Education is a unique, comprehensive, and inclusive post-secondary education transitional program that allows differently-abled students to gain a meaningful education while preparing for the workforce. During this three-year program, students will earn micro-credentials through select university courses, attend seminars that focus on building independence and participate in job shadowing and internship opportunities--with the option to live on FIU's beautiful Modesto A. Maidique campus. Through FlU Embrace Education, students will engage in student-led clubs and other social activities, and experience the culture of FlU while also interacting and taking courses alongside neurotypical individuals. We met so many fun candidates. Working with a school can offer several perks, including: 1. Job Stability: School positions often provide stable employment, especially for teachers and support staff, with regular hours and holidays. 2. Benefits: Schools typically offer benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, and professional development opportunities. 3. Summers Off: Teachers and some staff enjoy extended summer breaks, providing time for rest and personal pursuits. 4. Impact on Education: Contributing to the education of students can be rewarding and fulfilling, knowing you're making a positive impact on their lives. 5. School Community: You become part of a close-knit community of educators, students, and parents, fostering a sense of belonging. 6. Work-Life Balance: Many school roles offer reasonable work hours, allowing for a good work-life balance. 7. We all woke up with nerves jangling…. GCSE results day! My son Tommy was calm, I wasn’t. I messed up my GCSE’s… Tommy didn’t. But even if he had, it wouldn’t have mattered because there are always choices, options and solutions. GCSE’s are just one stage, just one test….that is all! And if truth be known I hate the idea of exams. Being tested and assessed so unequivocally by an exam on one day. What’s that all about…..seriously! 😕 In this day and age there has got to be a better way! But that’s another post for another day! The purpose of this post is simple…. If the grade boundaries have changed the plan for you and yours….if you’re feeling a little uncertain about things, perhaps I can help. If we’re connected here on LinkedIn and your son or daughter needs some advice, or a careers pep talk please let me know. I’m really good at that, it’s what I do! 😊 And if I can’t help I’m very well connected in the apprenticeship space.
