🌟 KP Labs' Contribution to Revolutionary Satellite Anomaly Data Release We are thrilled to have been part of this groundbreaking project led by the European Space Agency - ESA's Ground Segment Systems and Innovation Team at ESOC. The release of the first large-scale, real-life satellite telemetry anomaly dataset marks a significant milestone in the fields of space operations and artificial intelligence. 💡 At KP Labs, we were responsible for developing advanced algorithms and conducting workshops with satellite operators to understand their needs and select the appropriate metrics. Our team designed and implemented oxi.kplabs.pl , a tool specifically for data annotation, and we actively contributed to annotating the dataset based on feedback from operators. 🤝 This collaboration with ESA, Airbus Defence and Space, and the European Space Operations Centre (#ESOC) exemplifies the power of partnership and innovation. By making this data publicly available, we aim to enable the industry and academia to develop new AI approaches for detecting anomalies effectively and efficiently in satellite telemetry. 🙏 A huge thank you to our amazing KP Labs team for their hard work and dedication on this project - Krzysztof Kotowski, PhD, Jacek Andrzejewski, Bogdan Ruszczak, Jakub Nalepa. 🔗 Learn more in the original post by ESA 👉 https://lnkd.in/d_KVd-_H 📄 Read the paper 👉 https://lnkd.in/eTi-vR3x 📊 Access the data 👉 https://lnkd.in/ddxrb6bW 💻 Explore the code 👉 https://lnkd.in/eZdzvC5K Photo credit: ESA #missioncomplete #Innovation #SpaceTechnology #MachineLearning #SatelliteData #ArtificialIntelligence #ESA #KPLabs #Airbus

Excited to share a new blog post! 🚀 "FedSN: A General Federated Learning Framework over LEO Satellite Networks" discusses the challenges of training machine learning models on Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites and proposes a solution - FedSN. 🛰️ With LEO satellites equipped with sensors, they are not only used for communication but also for various ML applications like space modulation recognition and remote sensing image classification. However, limited contact time with the ground station makes it difficult to download the large raw data volume for centralized training. In this blog post, we introduce FedSN, a general FL framework that addresses these challenges by enabling on-device training and fully exploring data diversity on LEO satellites. We present a novel sub-structure scheme for training models considering the satellites' computing, memory, and communication constraints. Additionally, we propose a pseudo-synchronous model aggregation strategy to compensate for model staleness. To validate the effectiveness of FedSN, we evaluate it using real-world satellite networks for space modulation recognition and remote sensing image classification tasks. The results show higher accuracy, lower computing and communication overhead compared to state-of-the-art benchmarks. Looking for companies interested in solving these problem: Space Launch Detection: Using unclassified novel data, fusion, and analytic techniques (seismic, ionospheric, infrasonic, GPS telemetry, RF, neutrino, other), detect space launches within seconds. Upon detection of a launch, predict the ascent trajectory, intermediate and final orbits. Provide these predictions to an SDA sensor as a “cue” to reacquire and track the launch vehicle within seconds-to-minutes. Investment in this technology is warranted as no launch detection or early “cueing” capability exists for the commercial SDA enterprise. Such a capability would enable rapid target acquisition, ID, and threat assessment of launches. Object Identification (ID): From a set of features (orbital data, photometry, radar cross section, RF emissions, other), classify and ID space objects within seconds. Evaluate potentially mis-identified objects which may be adversary intelligence payloads or weapons. Nominate these for further investigation. Attempts to evade detection, tracking, and ID complicate defense from an attack. Examples may include covert operations or payloads, active satellites appearing dead, inactive, as debris, or otherwise plausibly deniable operations. Investment in this technology is warranted as camouflage, concealment, and deception are fundamental to warfare. Such a capability would aid hostility assessments, response options, and prevent operational surprise. #sda #space #protectanddefend #ussf #launch #tracking #data #analysis #datascience #ai #ml
