Now that football season is over, along with the suffering of my fellow Pats fans and our attention turns to baseball with Spring Training up the street in Ft Myers, this might be the smartest thing the Red Sox have done this off season.
Manager Alex Cora invited Boston Pops conductor Keith Lockhart to speak to the Red Sox! Yup, you read that right.
In a recent local interview Cora was quoted as saying: “We invited him to come over, talk about leadership, how we can get a group together of different talents, different levels to make it work. What they do in his job, in his domain, is amazing. You’ve got to be on point on everything. He just had a great talk with the players. It was very eye-opening the way they go about their business, the way they make everything work. And it was a good morning for all of us.”
And Lockhart had this to say: “When you deal with the Boston Symphony or the Boston Pops you’re dealing with a group of, within their field, elite athletes. The same kind of people who have spent five to six hours a day since they were five or six years old perfecting a craft, that brings with it the challenges of building a team out of people who, up until this level, the team was built around them. Because everybody here was the star in high school or college and in Triple-A, and all of a sudden there are a bunch of stars, so how do you get people focused on a common goal and mutually supportive?”
As someone who's spent the majority of his professional career selling sports and now music, I found this collaboration nothing short of brilliant. My takeaway from this is EVERYONE has got to check their egos at the door or diamond, commit to the team, mesh and respect diverse personalities and play nice together at the very best of their abilities for any team to succeed. Every. Single. Day.
And these leaders insights naturally apply to the business world as well.
Obviously we Boston sports team fans are a tough lot to please. We expect excellence and championships. 20 Years of watching the GOAT's leadership has spoiled us. Never mind the recent past successes of the Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins. And I think taking a look at how one of the premier musical conductors in the world leads his "team" to perform at their highest level individually as well as a team is a genius move by these people managers.
Wonder if the Pats owner has taken "note" of the Boston Pops leaders message with a new rookie coach? And no veteran QB to lead? Time will tell.
Meanwhile, who's ready to hear Play Ball? Right after the National Anthem?

Tenandahalf is intrinsically connected to Mansfield Town FC.
The business was born from Kevin Hitchcock’s goalkeeping heroics in 1987 when his 10 1/2 Boots saved two penalties leading to a cup final success at Wembley.
It’s therefore appropriate to recognise Mansfield’s promotion to Division 1 that was clinched last night.
What lessons can be learned that have application to business development (BD) success?
🔺Small differences collectively change outcomes. Robust follow up is a magic ingredient in BD in the way that squad strength at Mansfield has got the team over the line despite injuries to key players.
🧘Attitude is as, if not more, important than talent. Things will not always go to plan. Success in BD and sport requires character, tenacity, and self belief.
⏳Success takes time. It’s taken Nigel Clough 3 years to get all the pieces of a promotion jigsaw in place. Similarly winning new clients will require more than going to events and handing out business cards. You need to stay visible, increase interactions, and add value in each contact.

May 2022,
I stood nervously in Dublin Square, ready to release my core team. It was my first Rotaract appearance as the President, and I felt a surge of excitement mixed with a healthy dose of newbie jitters.
But amidst the chaos, a thought flickered across my mind: I want to make a mark here. Call it manifestation, call it ambition, but that day, I planted a seed of desire.
So, I took action. I devoured every Rotaract resource I could find. I volunteered with a fervor that surprised even myself. I sought out opportunities to contribute my ideas and skills to the club.
8th July 2023,
That wide-eyed newbie has been entrusted with an incredible honor – my club the Rotaract Club of Lala Lajpatrai College (Rclalas) was awarded the Best Club in the entire district 3141 amongst 140 plus clubs.
This journey has taught me two invaluable lessons:
* Manifestation is a powerful tool, but it thrives on action. Wishes alone won't propel you forward. Dedication, hard work, and a willingness to learn are the fuel that turns dreams into reality.
* Never underestimate the power of initiative. Don't wait for opportunities to come your way. Seek them out, contribute your talents, and show your leadership potential.
