💪 THE IMPACT OF PASSENGER NUMBERS AT JAPANESE STATIONS [SHINJUKU EDITION] 💪
jeki MASTRUM has previously discussed how Japan has developed around its railway system (check out our previous posts for more!). Now, let's delve into the actual numbers to understand the scale of this impact.
📈 STAGGERING NUMBERS OF JR SHINJUKU STATION 📈
Did you know? JR Shinjuku Station holds the title of the world's busiest terminal, with approximately 600,000 passengers boarding trains each day (※1). Annually, this adds up to an astounding 219 million passengers – about x2 the population of Japan. To put this into a global context, Brazil, the 7th most populous country in the world, has a population of 217.6 million. In short, this means Shinjuku Station sees as many users in a year as the entire population of Brazil, assuming each person used the station once!
✨ KEY FEATURES ✨
1️⃣ Beyond the impressive figures, Shinjuku Station boasts an extensive network of rail lines. As the world's busiest terminal, it serves a wide range of trains, from long-distance services to local commuter lines, attracting passengers from Tokyo and its surrounding prefectures.
2️⃣ Additionally, Shinjuku Station is a hub for several other major railway companies, including the Odakyu Line, Keio Line, Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line, Toei Oedo Line, Toei Shinjuku Line, Keio New Line, and Seibu Shinjuku Line.
This makes Shinjuku a gateway to various destinations within Tokyo and the greater Kanto area. For visitors to Japan, many of Tokyo's key attractions are just a direct train ride away from Shinjuku.
