But how did a tech product become a thing of luxury? You see, in 1999, when Steve Jobs decided to open retail stores, he faced criticism and doubts. Some even quoted that this would make Apple bankrupt. But Steve Jobs knew that luxury selling isn’t about a product but the process of making customers feel exclusive. Self checkout- love or hate? The retail giant Target just announced a new policy for their self-checkout lanes: customers will now only be able to purchase up to 10 items. While this may seem like a step back from the convenience and speed that self-checkout was designed to provide, it's important to note that self-checkout is here to stay. As someone who advises retailers on all things CX, I have a love/hate relationship with self-checkout. When it works smoothly, it's a lovely experience.
