When low doses of cancer drugs are administered continuously near malignant brain tumours using so-called iontronic technology, cancer cell growth drastically decreases. The results is one step closer to new types of effective treatments for severe cancer forms. Researchers at Linköping University and the Medical University of Graz have demonstrated that it works in experiments with bird embryos. “We have previously shown that the concept works. Now we use a model with a living tumour, and we can see that the pump administers the drug very effectively. So even though it is a simplified model of a human, we can say with greater certainty that it works,” says Daniel Simon, professor of organic electronics at Linköping University. https://lnkd.in/dbRnyAE4 #research #science #cancertreatment #braintumors #glioblastoma Linköping University Daniel Simon

"Russian scientists have proposed a new promising rapid way to diagnose breast cancer. It will spot the disease based on a blood test that takes between 15 and 20 minutes. The solution can be adapted to spot other diseases, too. Once that is accomplished, it could even enable simultaneous screening for multiple diseases. In further developing the method, its creators will have to consider its affordability and compatibility with the medical equipment routinely used in clinics, experts noted. The study is published in Applied Physics Letters." #cancer #oncology #sensors #photonics

Bladder tumours reduced by 90% using nanorobots! The research, conducted on mice, and led by the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and CIC biomaGUNE, with collaboration from IRB Barcelona and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, opens the door to new, more efficient treatments for bladder cancer. The tiny nanomachines are propelled by urea present in urine and precisely target the tumour, attacking it with a radioisotope carried on their surface. With a single dose, the tumour volume is significantly reduced, potentially leading to a decrease in hospitalization time and costs compared to current treatments. #BISTCommunity #PersonalizedMedicine #Nanomedicine #BladderCancer ➡ https://lnkd.in/g9pnrhwZ

Check out this fantastic overview describing the current and potential uses of #organoid models for advancing #cancer research published in the Springer Nature Group journal Experimental Hematology & Oncology. In the paper, authors Feng, et al. provide a detailed history of organoid development, discuss the current technological capabilities of organoids and organoids-on-chips and describe how they can be applied in different types of cancer research. “The response of organoids to drugs is highly correlated with patient clinical data, providing a reliable model for cancer research and treatment." https://lnkd.in/gk7mETu9 #oncology #cancerresearch #nonanimalmethods #NAMs #humanrelevantresearch

Glioblastoma, a formidable brain cancer, presents a daunting challenge in oncology with its aggressive traits of rapid proliferation, infiltration, and resistance to treatment. Our scientists at Aragen Biosciences’ California R&D campus established a luciferase-based orthotopic human GMB (Glioblastoma multiforme) model using U-87 MG-Luc cells in athymic mice. This model is useful for comprehensive preclinical evaluation of potential anti-GMB treatments, reshaping the landscape of medical research. With Aragen Bioscience's extensive expertise in developing >50 validated animal models, leverage the benefits of the orthotopic brain tumor model-assisted solutions and be a game-changer in GBM research. We will pave a smooth journey and customize the study design to meet your needs. Equipped with non-invasive bioluminescence imaging (BLI) and inclusion of comprehensive endpoints evaluation including histopathology and clinical biochemistry our study design ensures precise monitoring of tumor growth and therapy response, a crucial step in evaluating anti-GMB therapeutics before advancing to clinical trials in patients.
