🚽 Last week, our colleague Sylvia Bytow-Weissheimer attended the 1st German School Toilet Summit to proudly announce one of the winners of the nationwide competition "@Toiletten machen Schule®" (Toilets making the grade) by German Toilet Organization (GTO). ❌ Ailing school facilities, too little investment in educational infrastructure and overcrowding classrooms continue to be problematic. In many places, pupils eat and drink less so that they do not have to use poorly equipped school toilets, which can have health consequences. 🎖 As part of the competition, 135 schools with 76,125 pupils developed ideas and implemented concepts to sustainably improve their school toilets. One primary (Grundschule an der Stielerstraße, Munich), middle (Hellweg Realschule, Unna), and high school (Gymnasium Winsen an der Luhe) were awarded and received the main prizes. 👧 Svenja Ksoll from GTO particularly emphasised the power of participation: "If the pupils' wishes and needs are heard and they can actively decide for themselves, a lot can change." 👦 🙌 Kudos to all for addressing this critical issue and driving change in our schools!
