ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: French passenger train operator SNCF Voyageurs has announced the launch of a new project to extend the lifespan of “dozens of TGV” #highspeed trains, as part of its commitment to #sustainability and to lessen its impact on the #environment. Called project “Botox”, the initiative is being carried out by SNCF Voyageurs’ equipment department. According to the firm, the program will see around 100 TGV trains modernized and include around two million hours of work in the business’s industrial technical centers. According to SNCF, 104 trains have currently been identified as eligible for project Botox. Railpool, one of the leading #rail vehicle rental companies in #europe, and Siemens Mobility have concluded a framework agreement for the delivery of up to 250 locomotives. With the signing of the contract, 70 #Vectron locomotives were immediately called off. The initial call includes 24 multisystem locomotives for use in AC and DC networks, as well as 46 AC locomotives. Railpool’s #Vectron fleet grows to a total of 228 locomotives with this order. Global Mass Transit is organising the conference on ‘Fleet Electrification in Europe’ on December 6-7, 2023 at Amsterdam Marriott Hotel, The Netherlands. The mission of the conference is to discuss the experience so far, plans and perspectives of leading private and commercial electric fleet operators including public transport authorities/operators (PTA/PTO), logistics and commercial fleet operators, vehicle renting/leasing companies, last-mile mobility/delivery companies, and taxi/car-sharing operators. It will also discuss European Commission’s (EC) initiatives, federal and local policies for electrification, key considerations in developing an optimal fleet electrification strategy, and initiatives of utilities to support electrification of fleets. The #transportation division of Liebherr Group -Transport Systems has secured a significant contract with Swiss #manufacturer Stadler to supply 80 heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (#HVAC) systems for #train cars. This is the first serial order for Liebherr for such systems, highlighting the importance of this event for the company. Deliveries of the climate control systems will begin in mid-September 2024 and continue until the end of 2026. These systems are intended for 20 FLIRT #electric trains ordered by the Finnish national carrier VR Group in the fall of 2022. The #contract includes an option to supply another 50 trains, which could significantly expand the volume of cooperation between the companies. To develop a system that meets strict safety standards, Liebherr collaborated with the TÜV SÜD testing center. The company’s portfolio already included air conditioning systems using air and carbon dioxide as refrigerants. However, this time propane was chosen, due to its #environmental benefits and high reliability. The train car #ventilation and air conditioning systems also feature #innovative ventilation units, improving air exchange in the train cars and enhancing passenger comfort. The advantage of propane as a refrigerant lies in its minimal environmental impact. The collaboration between Liebherr and Stadler aims to create more eco-friendly and efficient #transport, aligning with global #sustainability trends. Modern climate control systems for train cars play a key role in ensuring comfortable conditions for passengers, which is especially important for long-term journeys. The development of eco-friendly technologies in transport contributes to reducing the #carbonfootprint and improving quality of life. The contract between Liebherr and Stadler is an important step in this direction, showing how major industrial players can collaborate to achieve common goals in #sustainable development.
