For many organizations and managers, this is the season to show appreciation. With the spirit of the holidays, under the distracting buzz of year-end activities, holiday planning, general festivities, bonuses, gifts and other friendly gestures choke the real and virtual halls of organizations to celebrate the employees that made the achievements of the year possible. Over many years, I have partaken in this ritual both as a giver and receiver of these appreciations. Coming from an HR background, I wasn’t sure what to expect as a first time attendee at The Gathering Summit. Hearing from brand leaders and marketing experts I was absolutely floored by the speaker line-up and left feeling inspired by the work that remarkable people are doing to foster community, create meaningful change and transform not only their brands but their people. Thank you Tyler Williams, Liz Maglione & Nathan Baynard, Jillian Harris, Michael Smith, Laura Nestler, James Boettcher, Artis Stevens and so many more for your thought leadership, candid conversations and generosity. It’s been one year since our organization has brought together our People & Culture team with our Brand & Reputation team. Which is how I found myself at this conference, soaking up all the goodness that brand experts have to offer. I spent the first day scribbling down basic marketing acronyms I’d need to google later and jotting down feedback on how they could improve masterclasses (because the learning & development nerd in me couldn’t help it). But by Day 2 I stepped back and began to understand the true magic of what The Gathering has to offer. Community, connection, and the ambitious belief that by bringing people together from all walks of life, we’d have the courage to work, play and lead differently. As I reflect on what I’ve learned, I’m even more proud of #TeamATB for the bold move to bring our HR and Marketing teams together. While we still have a lot of work ahead of us, we recognize that cult brands are built from the inside out. Our culture and our people are what enable us to Power Possibility for our clients. The ‘post-conference’ feeling can quickly fade. So in the spirit of continuing to build community, I invite anyone who’s just beginning or deep into their journey of combining their HR and Marketing teams to connect. These annual gatherings are more than just gaming events; they are a ritual of connection, sharing, and nurturing long-lasting friendships. 👥 Friendships Forged Through Gaming Year after year, these LAN parties have kept us bonded. We've played, laughed, and reflected on the year together. It's in these moments I realize how gaming connects people and strengthens friendships. 🏢 Translating to Company Culture These personal experiences have taught me the importance of shared experiences in building a strong community. In the corporate world, similar activities - whether gaming or other forms of engagement - can have a profound impact.
