Next year, after more than 10 years of living off and on in the States, me and my family will be getting our green cards. Sometimes it’s a hard place to love. But of all the places I have lived, America is the right place for me. Here’s why. Read my latest essay on Substack here: https://lnkd.in/ey64DZjy
Welcome, and thanks for making America better! What you're saying is a common theme I've heard from people who choose to come here. It doesn't appeal to everyone, but it does attract smart, ambitious people from around the world. I just wish our immigration policies did a better job of embracing that dynamic rather than causing friction against it!
As an American, this makes me happy. My country’s average IQ just went up!
LOVE this. I believe this too - just need to find the right time to move here (currently on vacation in the States as I type!). Also… Medellin is incredible. Favourite city I’ve ever been to. Glad for you that you got to live there! 🙌
‘My natural disposition toward risk and reward had found a productive canvas to paint on’ You wrote very well Kiri.
Exciting moment! Congrats. Great read, really love the transparency !!
Very thoughtful decision and solid reasoning behind it. Happy for you and the family! What part of the US seems most appealing at the moment?
Recommend you get US citizenship ASAP. Keep in mind green cards can be revoked if you spend too much time outside of USA or if you commit felony.
Very interesting article Kiri. I enjoyed it. Yes, no place is perfect - but if your happy where you are and it meets your goals - that’s the place for you I reckon.
For us, it's the freedom! Freedom to express our religion openly. Freedom to homeschool. Freedom to change our politicians. No country is greater!

1moI enjoyed reading this! I think about the self-selecting nature of the majority of Americans (mostly immigrants of one kind or another if not Native American or forced migration) and our ambitious hutzpah is selected in and amplified and now that's you and your family as well! Having worked abroad most of my career, the tall poppy thing really resonates and I saw that frequently in certain places. I'm thankful for this flawed place as well and my grandparents for making the trek!
