Let's hear it for Fernanda Morales Soto, a voice for change from KIPP San Jose Collegiate! Fernanda is on a mission to advocate for social justice and political reform. Like the lyrics of Grupo Clasificado’s song, Pensando, Fernanda Morales Soto often wonders “¿Cómo le hago pa cumplir yo lo soñado?” Fernanda strives to enhance her community and those with similar challenges. On campus, she’s Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica’s president—where she’s hosted SHH’s annual Pachanga with over 100 attendees and has created a new partnership with J4MW: The Bandana Project— meshing art with advocacy to amplify the voices of sexually harassed farm workers. She’s also a leader in KSJC’s Democratic club and has successfully collaborated with San Jose’s mayor to create an ordinance to uphold student safety. Let’s celebrate Fernanda and her cohort of #WebbScholars who all received this $60,000 scholarship!

Earlier this month, 13 dedicated parent leaders from KIPP Northern California traveled to Washington D.C. for a Hill Day event, amplifying the voices of our KIPPsters in the U.S. Congress. During their meetings with congressional representatives, these inspiring parents shared their stories and experiences within our schools. They advocated for increased resources for mental health support in schools nationwide, stronger policies to combat gun violence, and greater federal funding for charter schools. Alana was recently awarded the Athletic Director of the Year Award for the CIF SF/Oakland Section at the California Athletic Director's Conference.
