Which SDKs should you be installing on your mobile and web apps to collect first party customer data? Here are the three options to consider: 1) SDKs from your product analytics tools like Mixpanel, Amplitude, or customer engagement platforms such as Braze, MoEngage, etc. 2) SDKs from your customer data platforms like Segment. 3) SDKs from event collection platforms like Snowplow or RudderStack, which integrate with your own data warehouse. 𝐎𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 1 is a definite no-go. Traditional SaaS platforms are not designed to handle all your raw first-party data. Using them as your CDP can severely restrict your ability to leverage this data across other SaaS platforms. 𝐎𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 2 is feasible, but be aware it can become prohibitively expensive for B2C companies with large data volumes. It also introduces vendor lock-in, as your critical customer data gets locked away with an external third-party vendor. 𝐎𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 3 represents the optimal method for collecting and storing your customer data. By storing all your customer data in a cloud data warehouse, you retain complete ownership with zero lock-in. You can then use your data warehouse as the single source of truth — Either send only the "required" customer data to your SaaS tools or use warehouse-native solutions like Castled.io.

Its always exciting times in the MarTech space - Braze has just announced their new Data Platform, a significant but different step for an organisation specifically known for its Customer Engagement Platform. For years, Customer Engagement Platforms (CEP) have maintained that successful implementation doesn't require sorting out data complexities. CEPs championed the idea that marketers shouldn't need to become data wranglers to achieve successful customer engagement.
