Fruitful discussions and presentations at Ecobrasil, during this first day of seminar. Aimed at debating the decarbonization of ports and the maritime industry, the event is a good showcase of the efforts to a greener industry. As we strive for a more sustainable future, reducing carbon emissions in these sectors remains a priority. As a sponsor of the event, the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Brazil is focused on creating cleaner, greener ports and a maritime industry that leads by example. As part of the Dutch Green Ports Partnership initiative, APM Terminals, through Leonardo Levy, presented the challenges and opportunities in decarbonization of ports. Together with Brazil we aim at enhancing conversations and actionable solutions for #solvingglobalchallengestogether. #Ecobrasil #Decarbonization #Sustainability #MaritimeIndustry #GreenPorts

🌍 🎙 Thrilled to share that Global Maritime Forum’s Project Manager, Sophie Deyon, attended the GreenShift Summit on Green Shipping in Copenhagen hosted by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Copenhagen in collaboration with SINTEF and the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping. ⚓ In shipping, despite a 30% carbon intensity gain since 2008, emissions dropped less than 10% due to global trade challenges. Standard ship designs persist, and the shift to greener fuels is in its early stages. Urgency grows as the International Maritime Organization (IMO) aims for a 20-30% emission cut by 2030, escalating to 70-80% by 2040. 🚢 Sophie participated in a panel discussion alongside key stakeholders in the maritime community to discuss how collaboration, technology and alternative fuels can contribute to decarbonising shipping. “Collaboration and joint leadership are proving to be the best ways to achieve our common ambition to decarbonise the shipping sector,” she says. “By coming together and being open about the emissions linked to their activities, both Poseidon Principles and Sea Cargo Charter Signatories work to uphold the competitiveness of the industry while fighting climate change.” #PoseidonPrinciples #SeaCargoCharter #maritimeindustry #zeroemissions

Today marks four years since we announced the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping and our dedication to decarbonization has only grown stronger. Our incredible team of 130 experts, supported by over 100 partners from all over the world, has made significant strides in reducing fleet energy demand, enabling green fuel use, developing green corridors, and influencing policy. Despite the challenges, our mission to share knowledge and empower the ecosystem remains steadfast. Here's to the journey so far and the exciting road ahead. It's always about the people 💙🌎💪⚓📚 #ZeroCarbonShipping #Sustainability #Decarbonization https://lnkd.in/dcrj8259 Mitsui & Co., Ltd., Alfa Laval, Topsoe, Sumitomo Corporation, NYK Line, CF Industries, A.P. Today is a special day to me 💙 It marks the four year anniversary of announcing the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping We launched in between COVID lock-downs, sincerely hoping that decarbonization was still relevant although the world was suffering a collective COVID shock. And while we, the team, the many many brilliant people involved, the A.P. Møller Fonden, the founding partners NYK Line, MAN Energy Solutions, Siemens, Cargill, A.P. Moller - Maersk, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries had no real idea of what COVID might mean, they leaned in. I like to think because everyone felt it was the right thing to do. And in hindsight - it was more relevant than ever! 🌎 Four years down the line, I almost can not believe the platform we have created! 💪 130 people from a wide range of disciplines are giving 💯% of their working time to enable decarbonization⚓ and more than 100 partners collaborate to accelerate the transition through activities such as ⬇ Reducing fleet energy demand, 💧 enabling the safe use of green fuels such as Ammonia, 🌐 facilitating the development of green corridors, and by ⚖ supporting and influencing policy and initiatives to scale decarbonization. Since 2020, things have evolved much faster than anticipated, and the importance of the different drivers of change may have shifted. Seeing the pace of industry action, I firmly believe that the remaining technology related challenges will be solved shortly. Now, all eyes are on the IMO acknowledging that global regulation is key 🗝 And, while many things change, (at least) one core pillar of the center vision remains: We want to enable and empower the ecosystem to act by sharing, free of charge, our knowledge our blueprints, methodologies and playbooks 📚 The past 4 years have been crazy busy, frustrating, difficult and challenging. But its also been crazy fun and rewarding - thanks to the people, my colleagues, who have joined the ride. Its always about the people 💚 So many people where, has been and are involved... Tue Johannessen, Bo Cerup-Simonsen, Emma Mazhari, Michael Ritter Christiansen, Anja Andersen, Annette Stube, Palle Laursen, Anne H. Steffensen, Robert Maersk Uggla, Keith Dawe, George Wells, Aoife O'Leary, Tomoo Kuzu, Brian Østergaard Sørensen, Søren Helmuth Jensen, Takuya Matsumoto, Ole Graa Jakobsen, Georgios Plevrakis,MScEng,MBA, John McDonald, Peter Jonathan Jameson, Trine Filtenborg de Nully, Didde Welin Pilgaard, Tanja Ebbe Dalgaard, Claus Winter Graugaard, Torben Nørgaard, Sidsel Bromose, Mads Peter Zacho and the list continues... Giving the original launch movie a revival... 😁

On the eve of the European Industry Summit on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 April, we call on European government leaders to look beyond borders and find a solution to the deteriorating position of our industry. For years, the conversation between ports has been dominated by the question of who is the biggest. Nowadays, the CEOs of Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Duisburger Hafen AG, Port of Rotterdam and myself are talking about: “How can we unite to secure a sustainable future for industry in Europe”. It is precisely #industry that can make the difference in making our society more sustainable. As ports, we therefore want to take the lead in improving the investment climate for industry in Europe so that the relevant companies want to invest in #sustainability. We hope that industry will be given the opportunity to make the #EU more sustainable. After all, it provides crucial support for our ports, along with #logistics and the #energy sectors. It is therefore important for European government leaders to merge climate and industry policies in their five-year plan. Boudewijn Siemons, CEO Port of Rotterdam Daan Schalck, CEO North Sea Port Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO Port of Antwerp-Bruges Markus Bangen, CEO duisport - Duisburger Hafen AG https://lnkd.in/ejfVT8aH

My highlight of the month will be the ESPO (European Sea Ports Organisation) conference in Paris, France. Maritime sustainability has been an uncharted sea for me but knowledge is piling up, and what better way to gather it than straight from the source? Meet me and my colleague Ani Matcharashvili, and let's address the elephant in the room: Can ports achieve net zero? What solutions are out there for ports to implement and speed up their decarbonization strategies? What slows down adoption when we're literally boiling? I hope to get some answers, but most importantly, I am excited to grasp the speakers' knowledge. #maritimesustainability #portsemissions #netzero #ESPO
We look forward to grasping this year's theme at the ESPO (European Sea Ports Organisation) Conference: Net-Zero, Resilient and Competitive Ports: Acting Now to Deliver Tomorrow. The European port community gathers in Paris to share knowledge, try to take stock, and pave together the way towards a sustainable, resilient, smart and more competitive Europe, in which ports are playing more than ever a critical and strategic role. Our colleagues Ani Matcharashvili and Stefana Sopco are traveling to Paris right there in the middle of the action. They are excited to bring a different, more activistic view to the sustainability table and compile as much knowledge as they can. Are you planning to attend? À bientôt à Paris! #ESPO #EuropeanPorts #GreenShipping #Decarbonization
