Are you ready to greet your guests when they arrive at your event? Or is yout head in your laptop or buzzing around the sound desk trying to figure out a tech problem? We're all bootstrapping, DIY'ing, being all the things, but the arrival of your audience sets the tone for everything. Imagine if you showed up at a fancy restaurant, and the concierge was running around in the kitchen, as well as setting tables, pouring drinks for other guests. The reservation book is open, and you have to find your own name to tick yourself off. The book says you're on table 12, so you wander around looking for your table. You finally find it, take a seat, and the flustered concierge finally comes to say hello. Or, imagine you walk up to your event. The best version of you is there to welcome and help your guests begin their epic event journey. Imagine how much greater their experience will be. Put it in the budget, get someone to run tech and venue coordinating for you. Your audience is there to see and hear from you. Show up as your best self.

“Starbucks doesn’t look at you funny when you  order a decaf coffee.” -Nick Bodkins, Boisson When planning events, I don’t plan a gathering that I would want to attend, I plan a gathering that the GUESTS would want to attend. Some people call it being hospitable, and to be honest, I HATE that word.  Hospitable, by definition, means “friendly and welcoming to strangers or guests”.  But friendly only gets you so far 🤷🏻 ANTICIPATION is key.  If you can successfully anticipate, then hospitality is inevitable.  I plan with anticipation at the forefront of my mind, not hospitality. For every event I like to close my eyes, and imagine myself as the guest. I walk through the entire experience from start to finish… Everything from “are we asking our guests to drive during rush hour to arrive at our event on time?” To first impressions in the parking lot, to offering safe rides home via the corporate Lyft account and hotel accommodations when the weather goes south. Well, in our case, when it goes typical Midwest… Anticipating the possible preferences and needs of your guests leads to well-thought out and inclusive events. Small details have big impacts, and are the best way to earn a “guest for life”… My favorite subject of anticipation has been the rising trend in the art of the “sober cocktail”. In 2022, low and non-alcoholic drinks surpassed the $11 Billion mark collectively, across 10 global markets.  1. That’s a lot of money. 2. Event planning can be one of the most rewarding and also one of the most stressful jobs. After months of planning on Thursday we had to make a call to postpone todays Food and Music event and hope that the weather forecast was correct! We never take a decision like this lightly but we are always aware when working with caterers they will end up throwing away hundreds of pounds worth of food so the decision has to be made before it is bought and prepared. I was blown away by the gratitude from these businesses for making the decision.. When event organizers do make decisions to cancel/ postpone we end up hundreds/ thousands out of pocket so it’s important to make correct choices! Looking out the window it was the correct one 😊 on the plus side our event tomorrow is proceeding and the weather is looking better!! #stressfulweek #eventmanagement #hardbusinessdecisions
