From Sunday the 24th of September to Thursday the 28th, I had the incredible privilege of participating in the IEEE ITSC 2023 conference held in the picturesque city of Bilbao, Spain, to witness the latest and greatest in intelligent transportation systems. Many thanks to Sascha Hornauer for inviting me as a speaker to the workshop on "Probabilistic Prediction and Comprehensible Motion Planning for Automated Vehicles – Approaches and Benchmarking". It was an honor to share insights into our truly fruitful research collaboration with Scania Group and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Moreover, I am thrilled to announce that a pre-print of our groundbreaking work, co-authored by Emilia Silvas, Jose Manuel Gaspar Sánchez, Truls Nyberg, and Nathan van de Wouw, is now accessible on arxiv: https://lnkd.in/erztqYmb. In this novel work, our focus was dedicated to the active and anticipatory protection of road users hidden by obstructions. It's a call to action for us all to be vigilant and look out for one another at all times, not merely relying on last-minute safety mechanisms like AEB or AES. It's clear that we are embarking on a journey toward full automation, and significant challenges await us on this path. However, with each incremental step we take, we move closer to our shared goal of zero casualties and zero loss. Remember to keep your eyes firmly fixed on the road ahead, for we are here to support you every step of the way. Together, we can revolutionize the world of transportation and make our roads safer for everyone. #ieee #itss #ITSC2023 IEEE ITS Society Dynamics & Control (D&C) TU/e TNO TNO digitaal

Last week, I had the privilege of participating in the 26th IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC 2023) held in Bilbao. I had the honor of presenting our latest work, titled "Scenario Extraction from a Large Real-World Dataset for the Assessment of Automated Vehicles", a joint effort between Eindhoven University of Technology and TNO. As the title suggests, our work introduced an innovative method for identifying and extracting diverse driving scenarios from real-world data, with a specific focus on safety-critical situations involving various road users, such as vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. This method provides a valuable means to gain deeper insights into the behaviors captured within vast datasets and to evaluate the performance of automated functions in different scenarios. I would like to express my gratitude to the primary author, Detian Guo, and my co-authors Erwin de Gelder and Tom van der Sande for their invaluable contributions to this project. Furthermore, I am delighted to announce that a pre-print of our work is now openly accessible on arXiv: https://lnkd.in/dU8eusk3, and you can find all of our code and results on GitHub: https://lnkd.in/dSW289DE. Please feel free to explore our research and share your thoughts. #IEEE #ITSS #ITSC2023 #AutomatedVehicles #AutomatedDriving #Assessment IEEE ITS Society Control Systems Technology (CST) TU/e SAFE-UP H2020

Last week during HANNOVER MESSE, we had the pleasure to unveil our new white paper "Accelerating battery cell development", which we wrote with our partner RWTH Aachen University. 🐌💸 As PEM Director Professor Achim Kampker says, the european battery industry has a snail's pace and price problems: "The processes for developing and manufacturing new battery cells are still too slow and the costs too high. We must innovate while catching up." 🔋 In this study, our experts explore battery cell engineering challenges and potentials, proposing an improved development approach to streamline time-to-market. They outline the importance of a digital end-to-end toolchain to bolster cell development. Discover why standardized procedures, early integration of product and process, advanced simulation, and clear data transparency are essential for competitive development and production of battery cells and thus for a competitive and sustainable future of energy supplies in electromobility. 👉 Click here for the publication: https://lnkd.in/daaT3Jce #Emobility #Battery #HM24 #PEM #Sustainability #ClimateTech Marcus Fiege, Pierre Bagnon, Vincent Charpiot, Michael Müller, Cyril Garcia, Roshan Soorunsingh Gya, Laurent BROMET, William Rozé
