Tristan Tucker is a HORSEMAN (I write in capital as he is one of some individuals that embody what it truly means to be at the service of horses). I am sharing today what I got on my invoice as I am subscribed to his newsletter. "How do you handle frustration? Hey Arnau, Something interesting happened during the live event with Alizée FROMENT last week that I want to discuss with you. It's about frustration in our horses. During the live event, we worked with each other's horses when neither of us had ever worked with the horses before. And both horses showed signs of frustration during the learning process. Both horses are very sensitive and eager and tried everything they could come up with to please us. But, and as is a very normal process, they didn't get it right immediately and eventually got a bit angry. I loved how Alizée described their frustration: "He got angry because he feels like he knows better than me, feels like what I am asking for is wrong and that I should be asking something else." As soon as they started to feel positive change in his body, started to feel more relaxation and connection, the frustration ebbed away. I think it's a good reminder that sometimes, even when we're doing everything right and the horse is trying, training is a process and frustration can be part of that. And whether you're training the groundwork patterns or liberty work, it might take a while to click. But that doesn't mean you're not on the right path. For your horse to grow, he sometimes needs to come out of his comfort zone. Just make sure he can always learn from it and you can end your training session on a positive note. So if you've ever tried groundwork and felt frustration from your horse, it might be because it's new to them. They might just need some more time to process and feel the positive change."
