The Department of Psychology at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, is hiring! This cluster hire consists of three tenure-track faculty hires, one at the rank of advanced Associate or Full Professor and two at the rank of Assistant or early Associate Professor. The specific area within Psychology is open, as is the particular lifespan period of research focus. The goal of this cluster hire is to bring together scholars from diverse research areas and backgrounds who are focused on addressing ways in which psychology can seek to understand and ultimately, ameliorate inequities in mental and/or physical health and well-being, broadly defined. For example, those with social-based interests could have expertise in stigma, stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination, collective action, self/identity, diversity, group identity, close relationships, or intergroup processes. Individuals with research programs based in these or other areas, with implications for understanding or ameliorating disparities and inequities in society (e.g., in health, well-being, etc.) are particularly encouraged to apply. 1/2 years completed at Christ University, Delhi NCR as a Msc Clinical Psychology Student. Reflecting on my journey, Christ University has taught me the power of "reflection" in our growth as individuals and professionals. Here are some key takeaways from my first year: 1.Integrating Theory with Real Life: As an observant person, I'm actively applying classroom learnings to real-life situations, focusing on the seamless integration of theory with practical applications. 2.Embracing Research and Statistics: Recognizing the vital role of research and statistics in psychology, I've learned to approach them with patience and impartiality. Psychology is more than just understanding disorders; it's about understanding human behavior comprehensively. 3.Setting My Own Pace: I believe in progressing at my own rhythm while maintaining effective time management and self-discipline. It's not a race; it's about continuous growth at a sustainable pace. 4.Gratitude and Open-mindedness: I'm immensely grateful to my teachers and colleagues for their guidance and support. Keeping an open mind, questioning, observing, and fostering critical and reflective thinking are essential in this journey. 5.Psychology Beyond the Classroom: Understanding that psychology permeates every aspect of our lives, I'm cautious not to let analysis or diagnosis become second nature. It's about balance and respecting boundaries. 6.Empathy and Sensitivity: While disorders may be intriguing from an academic perspective, I'm reminded of the importance of empathy and sensitivity towards those who experience them. Never should we label any disorder as merely "interesting." 7.Professional Boundaries: Recognizing that not everyone is a friend, I embrace the distinction between colleagues and acquaintances, understanding the significance of professional boundaries. A special mention to Ilika Guha Majumdar ma’am, Rakesh KR Sir, Dr. Neeraj Panwar Sir,and Rashmi Kalra ma’am for being wonderful teachers/researchers and psychologists to look up to and learn from🌻 Looking ahead, I am eager to delve deeper into the field of psychology, learn more, and contribute positively to its advancement. Here's to many more years of growth and exploration in this beautiful field!

As a 2023 doctoral graduate in clinical psychology, I find that preparing for the state licensing exam (EPPP: Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology) is both Challenging and Rewarding. Though daunting at times and novel to the best approach, passing the comprehensive state exam will undoubtedly Boost my knowledge/skill base as a postdoctoral psychologist. Please feel free to comment on your experience in preparing for the state board exam in psychology.... The EPPP (poem) "In the realm of the mind, where thoughts intertwine, Studying for the EPP, oh the joy, oh the grind. Psychology’s mysteries, in textbooks confined, Unraveling them slowly, like a ball of twine. Freud and his theories, in my memory enshrined, Jung’s archetypes, in my subconscious you’ll find. Behavioral, cognitive, each perspective defined, In the vast landscape of the human mind. Late nights with Pavlov, and his dogs I’ve dined, With Skinner and his pigeons, rewards I’ve assigned. Maslow’s hierarchy, needs aligned, In pursuit of knowledge, to ignorance resigned. So I study with fervor, let no fact be undermined, For in this journey of learning, my Self I’ll find. N.; Carleton, R. Nicholas "The present study provides a 10-year update to normative data to reflect publication counts, citations, and h-indices for men and women clinical psychology professors in Canada. The current results showed meaningful changes since 2012, such as productivity values nearly doubling, more women than men at every professorial rank, and a narrowing gender gap with respect to productivity. "Clinical Race" in Psychology I decided in 12th I wanted to become a clinical psychologist because I found the job profile fun (I was 16 and naive). I continued on this path till I finished my master's. Over the past couple of months I've been reflecting on this trajectory though and quite frankly, I don't think I'm alone in this. NIMHANS exams are nearing along with several others and all that I can think of is "Do I even want this?" because a part of me is conflicted about my real interests. I spoke to a few students who felt the same way and felt like they just entered this race without giving it a thought and now feel like they just have to complete, which they admit is a sunk-cost fallacy weirdly. Some students think of it as a holy grail that will give them credibility and respect once they complete it irrespective of whether they even want it. Others believe that once they do this, they'll get a steady pay and that will be enough, again irrespective of whether they even like this field. Some counselling students want to join because they aren't able to market themselves or because they're anxious about joining the therapy space right now. Students who don't even like the field are paying north of 40k on coaching classes and tests and making themselves feel miserable. I personally like the field and feel conflicted and can't begin to wonder how they feel or what they're going through. A helplessness we've created by making it seem their lives will be over if they don't do an MPhil (sorry M. Psy now 🙃). Clinical Psychology is a beautiful area that I believe has turned into a capitalistic machine that breeds dread and misery.

Last year, in September, I embarked on a journey to attain a second master's degree in Psychology at the prestigious Sheffield Hallam University. I believed my experience at the University of Ibadan had already prepared me for this new journey; need I say I was deceiving myself. Being in a new system thus required acquiring new skills to function effectively. I am glad to have completed my first semester after submitting three brain tasking essays and one exam. I must confess I had so much anxiety approaching one of the essays. However, I had no choice but to approach it anyway. I am glad I met the deadlines. My first semester was an exciting and knowledge-filled one. I took modules on researching with children, delved into developmental issues, memory, and speech, among others. The module I found most interesting and engaging was research in applied developmental psychology. This resonates with me because I am interested in guiding and moulding a whole child, with the end goal of contributing to society by fostering well-developed and grounded adults who can make a positive impact. Second semester starts next week, and I am ready to take on another challenge that the semester comes with. I can't wait to explore modules on personality and individual differences, social psychology, and theories underpinning counseling. I will try to take you along during the course of the second-semester journey. Life of a Psychology student.
