"You should complete your work without a babysitter" "Take pride in your work" "Quiet quitting would be an embarrassment" I always find it interesting when these points are regurgitated because I always like to take a second and ask 'why?' 'You should complete your work without a babysitter' Why is there a babysitter at all? Is it because the employee doesn't know how to do their assigned task and needs retraining? Do they not understand the value of their work or how it relates to the organization? Instead of seeing this as a failure on the employee's part maybe we can examine the environment they are in and why they would respond in this way? Maybe their company is perfect in every way. Great! Then there should be a system put in place to make sure the standards are understood and enforced instead of allowing people to limp along or impact the productivity of others. Not unlike a baby that needs sitting. 'Take pride in your work' Why? What does pride or intrinsic motivation do to materially affect performance? If we're operating under the assumption that a light bulb assembled by someone who takes pride in their work shines brighter than the alternative, what is being done to encourage this? How does a company measure who takes pride in their work and who doesn't? Once a pride deficit is identified, what is a company doing to address it? How are the people who DO take pride in their work being celebrated, if at all? So much of this is based on the culture of a company and how it interacts with its employees. Also, my new band name is Pride Deficit, do not steal. 'Quiet quitting would be an embarrassment to a Scandinavian' If this is true, I have never been more thankful to not be Scandinavian. I have yet to meet a Quiet Quitter who was not previously an actively engaged, enthusiastic employee. Something within their work changed that. It could be inept management, lack of growth opportunities, ineffective communication, or outright hostility. Rather than shame them for this response, I think it would be more effective to explore what got someone to that point and address it so that it doesn't spread like pink eye at a daycare. But that's just me though. It's almost as if culture can inform our responses to things and everybody's different.

Is life experience more important than a degree? My career journey from a trek guide in New Zealand to an account manager at Sarani has been deeply influenced by my travels. Travelling taught me to embrace change, adapt, and grow. Here’s where it all started and what I’ve learned: New Zealand 🇳🇿 was my first solo adventure, working with horses in the mountains. The lesson: the importance of stepping out of my comfort zone. Thailand 🇹🇭, India 🇮🇳, Germany 🇩🇪 and South Africa 🇿🇦 was a whirlwind of character-building mixed with incredible cultures. The lesson: Resilience, empathy and the value of seeking help when needed. These 2 important lessons have influenced my career in countless ways. My adventures have taught me resilience, adaptability, and a global perspective that I bring to my work every day at Sarani. Having a degree behind your name or some form of tertiary education is important, don't get me wrong, but I can attest that life experience might be equally important, the 2 go hand in hand. Reconnect with land, colleagues & myself 🏜🌙✨ Last week was a bit different when it comes to work. I had the privilege to attend an unusual company trip to Uluru, an incredible place on earth with so much history, culture and most of all an unbelievable atmosphere. Such a peaceful and calm place. This experience gave me a lot to reflect upon - and especially… 1️⃣ taught be a lot about the history and culture of First Nations People and their communities. Having the opportunity to spend a full day with them and just being presence in the moment. I forgot all about time and remember that I afterwards was surprised that I didn’t even look at my watch for the whole day. How often does that actually happen? 2️⃣ reminded me about my daily pace and the awareness of when to adjust, and to acknowledge that it is all the small things in my daily life that matters. The beautiful view from our office in Sydney, beautiful sunrise along the beach, having good colleagues, people trust you, self-believe etc. 🌅 3️⃣ showed me the importance of investing time and resources as a company in your employees. And for me as a newcomer, it was a great opportunity to connect with people and get to know my new colleagues in a special setting. I believe this will only benefit us in our future collaborations. I feel so privileged over this experience 💫.. and it also just reminds me, that things often can be taken for granted in our daily life, because it becomes so normal. The importance of learning through diversity & multicultural environment in life🌏 The first time I experienced living abroad was when I was 2 years old. Since then, I’ve always been drawn to an international surrounding and had a desire to grow from different cultures. • I’ve traveled to 45 countries • Lived in 6 of them • By living in these countries I was closely introduced to 4 different religions • When I was 5, my best friend was from China • Now 1 of my best friends is from India So where I’m going with all of this? What I want to show here are the benefits of such international exposure especially from a very early age: • my mind is open and accepting all the cultural differences of a person I speak to • I am very adaptable, adaptable to a new country, a new person, new food, you name it • I learn, grow, and evolve even faster in such multicultural environments • I always find ”a new me” when I travel • I am OK to be outside of my comfort zone • And I’m also OK to be within my comfort zone I’d like to encourage you, my incredible human, ➡️to be open to all of those differences that each and everyone of us hold within, let’s embrace them, let’s inspire others through them, let’s celebrate them together in unity… ➡️…because at the end of the day we are all the same at the very core of our being… I love you with all your differences And with all your similarities 🤍 P.S. I’ve been Indian-washed! You know what’s the best thing about moving to another country? You get to meet people from all corners of the planet. They may appear “different” from you at first glance and end up becoming family. Last week, I got invited to my very first Indian wedding. The vibrant colours, rich traditions, and deeply felt rituals were extraordinary. The experience reminded me of the Colombian weddings I’ve attended. Joyous, crazy dancing, delicious food, and an atmosphere of happiness. What I've come to appreciate is that when you approach new experiences with an open mind, you quickly realize our shared human values and the opportunities we can create for each other. And if you are lucky, You’ll get invited to an unforgettable cultural event. And if you are really lucky, You’ll get to wear a traditional Kurta and be part of a memorable experience. Thank you, Brother Urvish, for inviting me to be part of an amazing celebration. Now, How is this related to the job search? In today's economy, employers value team members who are culturally competent and can work well with people from all walks of life. Understanding and appreciating their perspectives can make you valuable. Also, your willingness to understand and adapt to different corporate cultures can be a strong asset. Today’s tip: Find someone who doesn’t speak your first language. Engage in conversation with them and find commonalities. Don’t know what to ask? Try food! Food is the best connector - ask them about their hometown’s typical dish. See how their eyes light up as they describe something that's close to their heart. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐨𝐞𝐬 “𝐆𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞”𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐘𝐨𝐮? I’ve always been passionate about learning new things, and this does not necessarily pertain solely to my career. To me, getting exposure is about trying or experiencing new things that you might never have had the chance to do otherwise. I’ve always been a wanderer, and that fueled my desire to move out of India to see this beautiful world, learn about different cultures, and adopt the best aspects of them. Recently, I visited different landscapes in Scotland and saw a couple trekking with an infant. I could have never imagined going on a trek with an infant back in India. This is what exposure means to me. Similarly, I also wanted to work with people from around the world to learn how they think and perform their jobs and to adopt the best possible practices. This has helped me acquire new skills. To all my friends, collagues and connections, I encourage you to embrace and take challenges with discipline, determination and resilience as it will take you to new heights, both personally and professionally. In life, challenges are everywhere, not just within the confines of our professional lives but in every aspect of our day to day. For myself, balancing my work career and my sports passions without one affecting the other has been demanding, but it has taught me the true meaning of discipline, perseverance and commitment. Those of you who know me besides work, know that I am a passionate Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor, with multiple medals earned both in Morocco and internationally. Recently, despite an incredibly busy schedule filled with international trips, office work, and various commitments, I have dedicated myself to a new challenge: preparing and playing my first international American football game representing Morocco against Mexico (jersey 92). Whether at the office, on the mats or on the field, my mindset remains the same – I want it, and I will fight for it. This mindset drives me to continuously push my limits and strive for excellence in every aspect of life. Of course this comes with the support of the people arround you! I have always had a massive support from my previous employers, managers and co-workers. Tuesday’s Thoughts 👔👊🏽: Reflecting on my experiences living abroad. Traversing countries from Australia to the United Arab Emirates, then Lebanon, and back to Australia has been a profound journey of self-discovery and growth. These transitions have not only shaped my identity as a Lebanese Australian but have also instilled in me a deep appreciation for the richness of diverse cultures and the ability to call multiple places home. One significant lesson I've learned is the art of embracing different cultures. Each move presented an opportunity to immerse myself in new traditions, languages, and ways of life. This exposure has broadened my perspective, fostering a genuine understanding and respect for the intricacies of global diversity. Moreover, navigating these shifts has honed my adaptability skills. Starting afresh in unfamiliar environments forced me to quickly acclimate and learn to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries. This experience has not only enhanced my adaptability but also sharpened my communication skills, enabling me to engage with individuals from various backgrounds more effectively. In terms of interpersonal skills, the diverse environments have taught me the importance of tailoring communication styles to different individuals. Understanding that each person has unique preferences and needs has significantly improved my managerial skills and interpersonal effectiveness. This adaptability in communication has allowed me to connect with individuals on a deeper level, fostering stronger professional relationships. Lastly, the sense of belonging and familiarity in each of these places has instilled in me a profound sense of gratitude and openness to the possibilities that the future holds. As I contemplate the prospect of potentially relocating to any of these cherished homes in the future, I am reminded of the richness and depth of my international experiences. This was me 6 years ago, at the start of an incredible journey. On January 4th, 2018, I became an expat and my vision of the world changed completely. ------ 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐩 4 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞: - 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬: Living in a new country has taught me to understand and take the best out of different cultures. - 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐠𝐨-𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫: When you're abroad, you're on your own. This has made me more outgoing and proactive – you have to be your own hero. - 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐲 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐬: Moving away made me realize what being French means to me. But it's made me enjoy taking risks and valuing the journey over the outcome. ---- Since then, I've lived in 3 different countries, and am looking forward to more!
