Today was the first day of George Mason University’s Early Identification Program Summer Academy & Institute for Excellence. We welcomed 830 students on campus to participate in our Summer Programs (680 for Summer Academy + 150 for Institute for Excellence). The Summer Academy is a 3-week academic enrichment program where college-bound first generation students take coursework they will be enrolled in the following academic year. The Institute for Excellence is a 5-week hybrid program, which is part of Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and Dominion Energy Building Hispanic Talent Initiative (BHTI) where students earn college credit. #studentsuccess #firstgensuccess

🎓🌟 Celebrating National First Generation College Day: Empowering Dreams at College Possible Chicago! 🌟🎓 Today, as we commemorate National First Generation College Day, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude to be a part of an organization that is making a profound impact on the lives of first-generation college students. 🌟 First Generation, but NOT Last! 🌟 For many of our students, the path to higher education is uncharted territory, and the journey is filled with challenges that might seem insurmountable. Yet, they stand resilient, driven by a fierce determination to break barriers and build a brighter future for themselves and their families. These students are the embodiment of the spirit that says, "I may be the first in my family to go to college, but I won't be the last." 🎯 Let's Continue the Journey 🎯 As we celebrate National First Generation College Day, let's not forget that our work is far from finished. We must continue to advocate for educational equity, foster a culture of inclusion, and provide opportunities for every student to reach their full potential. Special thanks to our partner The Renaissance Foundation who awarded scholarships to our talented First Generation students below. Together, we will continue to help more first-generation students shatter ceilings, achieve their dreams, and create a brighter, more equitable future. 🌟🚀 #NationalFirstGenerationCollegeDay #EducationEquity #EmpowerDreams

No amount of online research can replicate the experience of stepping onto a college campus. That’s why Breakthrough Atlanta facilitates campus visits throughout the year for our program’s high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Not only do students learn about courses of study and future career opportunities, but they also learn about personal development and social engagement opportunities like extracurricular sports and activities and Greek letter organizations. Read more about our college visits at the link in our bio. #collegefirst

Senior Vice President for University Advancement, William & Mary | CEO, W&M Foundation | Co-Founder & Managing Director, Extra Credit Ventures
As more people question the value of higher education, I believe those of us who have experienced the transformative impact of a college degree, and those of us who are working to advance and sustain the opportunities provided by a higher education need to continue to explain why it matters more than ever. A William & Mary education, in particular, can change forever the trajectory of a family, a nation, and the world. Here are some reflections I shared with our Tribe on how we are building a better tomorrow at the Alma Mater of the Nation. https://lnkd.in/esexYSUv

Day 9 is for the Colleges That Change Lives! Arguably, every college changes lives, of course—what makes these colleges special? They prioritize classroom experience. They cultivate strong communities. Grads of these schools often go on to excellent grad programs, fellowships, and jobs. I’ve both worked with students and also known people in my peer group who went to many of the CTCL schools—and one of my favorite things about this list is that it, well, isn’t ranked. It’s just a list of schools whose alums feel strongly about the great experience they had there. A couple other schools I often recommend that are similarly filled with intellectually curious, kind, community-oriented students: Seattle U: some of the most thoughtful and intentional people I know went there, and some equally thoughtful and intentional students I’ve worked with have applied and attended. Very committed to Jesuit-style social justice if that’s appealing (though if you’re looking for a Latin Mass, the West Coast Jesuits aren’t your Catholics). Excellent food nearby and campus feels very calm with downtown right outside the metaphorical gates. Syracuse: awesome programs in almost every discipline, big school spirit, beautiful campus, and 10% of the student body comes from NYC—so don’t mistake it for being “super far upstate”. Feels like a big public school but is actually private. Solid Honors option. Next door to SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, where Robin Wall Kimmerer teaches. Occidental: Barack Obama started here. It was designed as the Princeton of the West (colors are orange and black, mascot is the tigers) but has curvy red tile roofs instead of brick and ivy. Awesome classroom experience and grad outcomes while offering less admissions stress. Small, which isn’t for everyone, but is for some! I could keep going but won’t. See what you think!

Interesting read and some very good points. There is a high need for more practical career advising in higher education institutions. Graduates need skills to be prepared for the workforce, not just head knowledge on a certain topic.
Love that our LSU Olinde Career Center team gets to be the driver of this work at Louisiana State University. It helps to have buy in from great faculty and staff partners across the campus. https://lnkd.in/gj_6KQJm

🎓 Today, on National First-Generation College Student Day, I want to celebrate the incredible journey that many of us have embarked on. As a proud #firstgenerationcollegestudent - someone who went from a community college (at Cerritos College) to getting a BA degree from California State University, Los Angeles, an MA from Fuller Theological Seminary and a doctorate (at Biola University) and now seeking a second master's degree (at University of California, Irvine - The Paul Merage School of Business) - I know firsthand the challenges we face, but also the #determination that drives us forward. 👨🏽🎓 Being the first in your family to attend #college is a testament to your #resilience and #ambition. It's a path filled with uncertainty, but it's also a path that opens doors to new #opportunities and paves the way for future generations. In other words, first gen college students will set a new direction for generations to come. Remember, your unique experiences and perspectives as a first-gen student are valuable assets. Embrace them, because they set you apart in a world that values #diversity and #inclusion. Let's continue #breakingbarriers, defying expectations, and showing the world what we're capable of. We do this for our familia. We do this for our comunidad. Our success is their success. ✊🏽 To all the first-gen students out there, you are an inspiration! Keep reaching for the stars and inspiring others to follow in your footsteps. ¡Pa ‘lante, mi gente! 👊🏽 #FirstGenPride #NationalFirstGenDay #EducationMatters #educatedlatinos
