Addressing the Limitations of Newborn Screening Programs. The statistic is jaw-dropping – 70% of genetic rare diseases start in childhood. While newborn screening has evolved into an effective public health program to enable early intervention for many conditions, unfortunately there are many treatable rare genetic disorders that current newborn screening programs do not test for, resulting in devastating outcomes for many individuals and their families afflicted by these disorders. At Key Proteo, we envision a world in which early intervention through early, enhanced detection is available for every child, everywhere. While Key Proteo intended to submit its first newborn screening kit to the FDA on 3/29/24, a software issue was identified in the final review of the application and has delayed the submission. Key Proteo would like to acknowledge the delay and fully intends to submit once the issue is resolved.
