Anyone with chronic conditions, childcare obligations, and any form of personal and social life will need to make significant compromises. When you take a trip to the pub, another layer of exclusivity is created. We’ve found lunchtime and daytime social events much better for the team so everyone can get involved! 1. Lunchtime Networking Food is always a winner. Going out to eat together in a non-pressured environment or finding a local networking event within the working day will always be my first choice over post-work drinks. 2. Walking Meetings It is a great excuse for the manager to take the team out, get to know everyone and get outdoors, and we find it really useful! 3. Training Sessions Guest speakers, jumping on webinars together, and learning together is a great bonding experience! 4. Lunch & Learn Take the upskilling into your own hands! 🎉 🎊 Happy 2024 everyone!!! 🎉 🎊 Here in Australia, things really slow down for the last week of December and first week of January. A good number of companies in my industry fully shut down for a 2 week break. I decided to follow suit and allow myself to unplug, and enjoy a few weeks off while most folks are away. I successfully made it through a week and half before jumping back onto LinkedIn. 😆 😆 Unplugging is different from a vacation/holiday. Unplugging is more akin to staycation. Even better, it's like Ferris Bueller's Day Off. It's about making each day into what you want it to be and allowing yourself to enjoy each moment. It can be a spontaneous road trip or it can be lounging in bed and reading a whole book in one day. The choice is yours to enjoy guilt-free. Unplugging allows me to turn off all the "noise" of the daily work/life balance grind. It offers a chance to recharge. It allows for self-improvement. I found that it also results in a clearer thought process about my career/business focus. I'm not talking about business strategizing, as that defeats the purpose of this type of unplugging. It's more personal than that. It's about discovering my vision for my career/business path for the coming year and understanding my creative and financial value/worth. When I plug back in, the focus will be on strategy for that vision. I have lots of interesting topics on my list for LinkedIn posts for 2024. Look forward to sharing it with all of you. After taking some much-needed time away this summer, I'm back, albeit not quite as "rested" as the word "break" might imply. With two kids, a heatwave and a world that doesn't pause, who can truly rest, right? But what I lack in physical relaxation, I made up for in thinking time, renewed focus and a feeling of gratitude too. Truth time - family time is a mixed bag! When juggling work, childcare, and trying to maintain some semblance of self-care, the words "time off" take on an entirely new meaning. It's a mixed bag of beautiful moments and a fair share of chaos, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. And I owe a massive shoutout to my incredible colleagues and my phenomenal business partner Debbie Caswell. Thank you for holding down the fort - favour will be repaid in a few weeks! Being away has given me plenty time to ponder what I am aiming to accomplish here on LinkedIn. Talking about marketing is a given (just try and stop me), but what about my personal brand? Is that what we're still calling it?! What is it that I want to talk about, and what would you, my audience, find valuable and interesting? Pondering on that is one of the reasons I haven't dived straight back in. Having been an early adopter on here, I've watched it change so significantly over time and I think we can all agree it has its downsides as well as its positives. I'd love to hear your thoughts. What do you find most interesting or beneficial to explore on here? Or is it now just a mindless scroll and avoiding the obvious?
