The challenge before everyone driving our energy transition resides in bringing together EV, DER, OEM, DERMS, ADMS, Aggregators, and VPP providers -- "every stakeholder" together to accelerate innovation and help prevent grid reliability challenges before they happen. We are proud to be partners with Brian Grunkemeyer, Tyler Phillipi, and their team at FlexCharging, who, together with Rhythmos.io, are collaborating, innovating, and sharing critical insights to successfully meet and improve the future demands of today's grid. FlexCharging and Rhythmos.io are committed to working together to unify their efforts to advance electric transportation goals.

As utilities see rising adoption of #EVs, solar and energy storage batteries, the distribution grid is an increasing area of pain. FlexCharging's utility customers ranging from rural coops to entire nation-level distribution system networks need help to preserve existing grid infrastructure (service transformers, feeders, and even substation transformers).
Everyone eagerly anticipates DERMS can see all the overloaded transformers, talk with all DERs, and implement grid orchestration. This must happen while keeping homeowners and EV drivers happy. Yet many utilities don't know how to value preserving existing assets, let alone where to target program marketing efforts or grid upgrades. No solitary solution provider has all of these pieces implemented well.
Demand Flexibility is an amazing approach for improving reliability and reducing infrastructure costs, but requires most consumer-owned devices working in a coordinated way informed by grid topology, capacity constraints, and carbon intensity.
To deliver on this value proposition, we are partnering with Rhythmos.io to go beyond our existing managed charging solution's co-optimization around price, solar, carbon emissions & peak capacity. Our customers need us to provide this necessary orchestration piece, and understand the value provided by preserving existing assets. We know Kenneth Munson, Mark Rawson, Mark Jaggassar and the Rhythmos.io team shine additional light on this obscured part of the grid, enhancing the clarity of our EVision platform.
We are looking forward to a great collaboration.

Electric vehicles are driving big changes at the intersection of clean energy and grid planning, bringing challenges and opportunities that call for major collaboration across the private and public sectors. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is working on many fronts to help utilities, regulators, local planners, and others in the EV ecosystem navigate this fast-moving energy landscape with our EVGrid Assist initiative. Today, at the 2024 NARUC Policy Summer Summit, we debuted a shared vision for the future of vehicle grid integration.
Developed in collaboration with industry stakeholders, this unifying vision is designed to help stakeholders prioritize and target action as they work to advance vehicle grid integration solutions that provide universal value to EV drivers, customers, utility ratepayers, and power systems.
We’re excited to continue working with stakeholders and encourage everyone to read more about our shared vision here: https://lnkd.in/esEZJcSE
As part of its EVGrid Assist initiative, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has released a shared vision of vehicle grid integration for the industry. “The Future of Vehicle Grid Integration: Harnessing the Flexibility of EV Charging” illustrates the characteristics of a future where electric vehicles are safely and securely connected to, reliably served by, and harmonized with the electric grid. The document offers a goal to work towards for stakeholders as they develop products, identify opportunities for standardization, and design new policies, rates, and services in pursuit of this vision.

As National Clean Energy Week is marked this week, a comprehensive white paper is being released today that assesses those issues it sees as pivotal to broad electric vehicle (EV) adoption and greater progress toward home and building electrification by 2030. The new paper, Electrification2030, was produced by the Electrification Institute, recently established by Qmerit, North America’s leading installer of home and business EV chargers and other clean energy technologies. Among the crucial issues the white paper addresses: “Examining the reasons for public charging malfunctions is a key to improving public charging reliability.””Knowing how many homes have EV charging, solar panels and battery storage can help gauge America’s

FirstLight in Massachusetts is piloting bidirectional #EVs for #energystorage using #vehicletogrid (#V2G) technology. This method uses EV batteries as a # #distributedenergyresources (DER), offering an alternative to traditional large-scale storage infrastructures. Their system includes Nissan LEAFs, and Fermata Energy#AI powered software, demonstrating how a #fleet of #bidirectional EVs can significantly contribute to the #grid, especially as EV adoption increases. Melissa Chan highlights the importance of recognizing EVs as DER and the necessity of regulatory adjustments to maximize this potential shared by POWERGRID.
How can #EVs provide grid-scale storage? Today’s Powergrid International article by our Senior Director of Grid Solutions and Strategic Partnerships, Melissa Chan, explores how FirstLight has been quietly operating a technology that promises to be the next big thing in grid-scale, long-duration energy storage: #V2X bidirectional #EVs operating as #V2G battery resources.
