While the idea of moving from VMs to Containers might be enough to cause some sleepless nights, Greg Deffenbaugh says "IBM tests show that transaction workloads on x86 can be delivered at over four times the throughput and in half the response time using a Red Hat® OpenShift® environment versus a classically deployed virtual machine environment" and in the attached article, goes into more depth on the topic while pointing to additional resources for those already sketching out plans to handle whatever comes next from Broadcom.

Virtualization: What is Virtualization? Virtualization is pretty easy to understand. When it lets different operating systems run together on one machine, we call that combination a virtual machine (VM) 🖥 . The main piece of hardware running a VM is called the host 💻 . Think of virtualization as having one computer that acts like many, sharing its CPU, memory, and storage with different virtual machines. Why Virtualization is important? Virtualization lets you work with computer stuff more flexibly. Physical servers are like big machines that use power, space , and need fixing sometimes. With virtualization, you turn all that physical stuff into software, so you can control it like using an app online. It makes managing and using computer things easier. Real life Example: Think of virtualization like a pizza 😋 . When you order a whole pizza, you're limited to just one type of pizza and everyone has to share it. But with virtualization, it's like having the ability to divide that pizza into smaller slices 🍕, each customized to different people's tastes. So, the need for virtualization arises when you want to make the most out of your resources, just like how dividing a pizza allows everyone to get exactly what they want without wasting any. In real life, companies might use virtualization to run multiple different applications or operating systems on the same physical hardware, making their infrastructure more efficient and adaptable to different needs.
