Wealthy “robber barons” of the late 19th century like Andrew Carnegie, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and John D. Rockefeller were known for ruthless, unethical business practices. A new book describes how modern-day robber barons dominate America’s food industry. In Barons: Money, Power, and the Corruption of America’s Food Industry, agricultural and antitrust expert Austin Frerick tells the stories of seven corporate titans, their rise to power, and the consequences for everyone else. #industrialagriculture #monopolies
Not to dismiss the main theme of the book at all (disclaimer: I haven’t read it but have heard the author on podcasts promoting the book), but there may be some bending of the facts included. As always, use your critical thinking skills.
Psychopaths running the food system does not sound like a good thing.
It wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see a lawsuit against large food companies for selling consumers food that was bad for their health. It isn’t much different than what was inflicted on folk by the Tobacco industry.
There are Overseas Barons now running our food systems. A good beating we have taken due to them.
GREAT book! It has a fluent, engaging storyline packed with facts and heavily footnoted. An emerging classic, if you ask me. Highly recommend!
Maybe a good read for the summer. Is it available in Europe?
An important book with a sobering message.
Another good book is The Giants by Pr Philips From Sausalito University. Very enlightening. Makes sense. TY

1moAnother good book, “Breakfast at Monsanto’s Is Roundup in our food making us fatter, sicker, and sadder?” by Lee Evslin, MD. It includes extensive research finding highly significant correlations between the rapid rise of Roundup spraying and the rapid rise of 22 major US diseases and their mortalities. https://kikokauai.com/products/breakfast-at-monsantos
