I Help Startups Set Up B2B Sales Outreach & CRM Systems | B2B Growth | Founder | Board Member

We're Building the Ecosystem in Atlanta- That was the theme last night - The screening last night of #showherthemoney came to the ATL, and I was able to attend with so many other founders and funders in #Atlanta. Really incredible movie about the current stat of >2% of women gaining Venture Capital funding currently. Thank you Tamara Vrooman Lucas for the invitation. After the film, an amazing panel with Naseem Sayani (she/her) Robin Gregg Kim Seals Erica Tuggle had amazing advice for women raising. My top 10 takeaways from last night: When raising - 1. Position yourself / communicate how your company is THE TICKET to getting to the market that that VC is seeking to gain access to 2. Get an early believer as your anchor first during your round of funding - their championship can help to create urgency and confidence 3. Pay attention to the VC’s questions of you- to gauge how quickly they are able to move or if they're not in a mode to act quickly (aka "kicking tires") 4. Build a network of people who can help you review a term sheet / contract to avoid predatory or unreasonable terms. Support your other female founders with your learnings of things to watch out for. 5. Exhaust your non dilutive capital options first - Having even 100 meetings is normal to try and lock in non dilutive capital - be persistent before turning to VC. 6. VC Raising can be very transactional first, then a relationship develops. It could be improved by putting the time into the relationships and spending say 6 months building that, then its easier and quicker to seal the deal with funding when you need it quickly. 7. Time is limited - Spend the time building the relationship with the ones who "get" your business. That will pay off. 8. Prepare- Take the time to understand the investment thesis of the VC firm you’re pursuing 9. If you fail-characterize it as learning. Example: A VC had a founder who failed & put together her debrief of learnings in a deck and share presented it BACK to the VC in the the light of “Now I'm a better founder to invest in.” That cultivated confidence with the VC versus losing that relationship. 10. Cultivate your mentors - it just takes one great mentor to help you get to the next level. Find just ONE at least who can truly help you. Any other great lessons in raising capital we need to share? This night was so special and enjoyed meeting so many inspiring women making great things happen- and building the ATL #femalefounder ecosystem.
