You cannot find it in the local supermarket or the wine dealer because no one imports it and you cannot order it abroad. Who loves sherry? Did you know that Sherry is expected to be the biggest growing part of the wine market between now and 2028? With so many different styles of sherry available, there is always something for everyone. In Spain for example, we tend to associate sherry with being a drier-style wine; whereas in the UK, USA or Germany (the largest markets for generous wines at present), sherry is generally known for being a sweet wine. It’s hard to get shocked by Burgundy prices any more, but even we were taken aback by the offer made by Pleasure Wines, an online retailer based in Strasbourg — because we never thought we’d see these wines on sale. ⁠ ⁠ Although fine wine merchants re-adjust their prices regularly, they hardly discount top bottles. In late November however, Pleasure Wines ran a Black Friday deal on a number of investment grade wines, including Domaine Romanée-Conti, Comtes Lafont, and Cecile Tremblay, as well as sought-after wines from elsewhere.⁠ ⁠ It’s hard to imagine what type of consumer will leap at the chance to pay €22,080 rather than €27,600 for a bottle of DRC; anyone who can afford to pay five-digit sums for a single bottle of wine is probably neither price sensitive, nor motivated by discounts. With Valentine's Day tomorrow, we have dessert wines on the mind. At Wiens Cellars, we have been making both Ruby Port & White Port long enough to keep the name, but nowadays, that's pretty rare. "Port wine’s roots stretch back to the 17th century when merchants began adding brandy to wine to preserve it for the journey from Portugal to England. Today, true port comes exclusively from the Douro Valley, where the unique terroir lends these wines their distinctive qualities."
