As a #comms leader, there are several takeaways I appreciate about this article, the primary one being: communications work is strategy work. (It's not an accident that Biden's Chief Strategist is also his speechwriter.) The act of framing and messaging a decision is often what helps leaders to more fully appreciate, and feel secure in, the impact and implications of their choices. Time to kick off the campaign of a lifetime... #LetsGo

Campaign Diary- 5 At times Crowd speaks about metrics of impact the campaign is putting on the masses. The sight of the huge crowd gives energy to the leaders, a chance for personolized connect through rhetoric speeches. We believe that content is the king during speeches, but this will be dominated at times by the quantity of crowd. Mass Mobilization or Crowd gathering is something an art, that cannot be mastered by all leaders. The Trust factor, the promises by the leader or the party also matters. In order to put the crowds spirits high, leaders at time need to skip away from the facts and figures of the designed draft of speech. Today I have witnessed the magic of speech beyond facts and figures, the speech that connected to the rhythm of the crowds chants. I was mesmerized looking at the crowd from the top view of the meeting stage. At the end of the day it's the quantity of the crowd creates traction, the number attract even the opponent, crowds quantity gives a message before the judgement day. It's not leaders always win the election, but the crowd do. #campaigns #campaignmanagement #campaignstrategy #crowd #masses #impact #politics #politicalcampaigns #strategicforesight #strategy #mediarelations #campaignforimpact

To my DEI network....are we assuming that everyone inherently cares about DEI, and is that assumption stunting our progress? Is our purpose to create change through “moral awakening?” or to create change regardless? If you haven't yet watched Robb Willer's #TedTalk linked below, then I would highly recommend it. Whilst he talks about having better political conversations, it is evident that there's a connection between a leaders deep values and what they prioritise as leaders (just look at the politicisation of DEI in the news right now) So, here are my questions for my DEI peers: ⚡️Are we getting our messaging all wrong? (nobody changed their values by simply being told they should care about something). ⚡️It's easy to influence those who share our values, but how often have we influenced someone indifferent, fatigued or even completely against DEI? ⚡️Are we disrupting the status quo? or just narrowing our sphere of influence and impact to those who think like us already? (oh the irony!) These are all questions I've asked myself, so I'm genuinely curious if anyone is thinking the same. What if we talked only about our ability to - enhance team performance - advance innovation - improve decision making - bring in higher revenues - lower employee turnover - attract the very best talent ⚡️Could we widen our impact by engaging those leaders who have so far been indifferent? ⚡️ Could we feel morally ok moving from loud activists to subliminal influencers? should we need to? ....no, but DO we need to to advance our mission? I think we might. https://lnkd.in/ey5fEp8N #DEI #influence #impact

I rarely weigh into politics, but I'm doing so this time for two reasons: First, I live in Florida and feel like I have some skin in this game, and second, becuase op-ed by Kimberly Strassel at The Wall Street Journal points out clearly how important strategic communications is to a politician. There's a lot we can all learn from this. Strategic communication is the art and science of delivering the right message, to the right audience, in the right way, at the right time. Sounds simple right? Its' remarkable how frequently companies and politicians violate this very simple rule. For months, I've walked around my house and my office, talking to myself - yes, it's how I do my best thinking, friends, and colleagues about how confused the DeSantis team seemed and seems to be about their vision, their message, and their audiences. And, for months, my questions have proven accurate if the polls are any evidence. In fact, polls aside, my conversations with those who should support DeSantis (key audiences) reveal many are turning away from him. This is a clear indication he's not letting his vision guide his messaging and he's violated my basic rule: right message, right audience, right way, right time. To be fair, many politicians, particularly in today's identitarian and populism-consuming society, play whack-a-mole with their messaging. They rush after each audience with a different message that is not often accurately reflecting the politician's vision (if they have one). The only consistent message is that they don't have a strategy. Here are the lessons to be learned: 1. Leaders set their vision and persuade others to buy into it. They don't measure the validity of that vision through polls or data. 2. Leaders stick to their vision because they know that they lose credibility if they are seen as waffling about it. 3. Every leader, and in this case it's a politician but it could apply to all of us, understands they have a large constellation of audiences to whom they COULD communicate but they only have a few audiences to whom they MUST communicate. 4. Leaders work hard to hone their vision into a compelling message. 5. Messaging must accurately and fairly reflect the leader's vision but it must be crafted in such a way that each key audience will hear it. Hope this helps! #pr #strategiccommunications #strategy #leadershipdevelopment #leadership

Donald Trump's court case is a helpful reminder of the dangers of solution aversion. Solution aversion is a bias where we justify solutions that align with our beliefs despite contrary evidence. In the case of Trump, Republicans are more inclined to think his case is a witch hunt and a sham. This phenomenon affects not only politics but also businesses. Combat solution aversion with these steps: - Embrace data-driven decisions and be objective - Encourage diverse perspectives and uncover blind spots - Stay open to change and adapt with new information #Leadership #DecisionMaking #SolutionAversion #ProfessionalGrowth

Leadership lessons from a Labour landslide... Nah. More importantly for PR folk, red is for go today. All decisions have been on hold since the day the election was announced. Businesses appreciate clarity and have an appetite for certainty. We've taken a step in the right direction this morning, but some questions remain as yet unanswered. These are moments when communications professionals step in to calm nerves through the power of storytelling. Employees, investors and consumers all want to know what this means for them and businesses should be telling them. So to all my comms colleagues - I’ll see you on the other side. And if you need some help over the coming weeks and months - you know where we are.

With the upcoming presidential debate this evening, I just wanted to throw this out there: “The aim of an argument should not be victory, but progress.” - Joseph Joubert We can't influence what will happen on the debate stage tonight, but we can control the intention, language and rhetoric that we use with our colleagues, clients, and ..... even our competitors. You've heard the phrase "pick your battles". Once you've picked them - how are you defining a "win"?? If you are looking to influence change, about politics or any other topic, check out the Fast Company article in the comments. #conflict #communicationskills #leadershipskills #strategy #debate #campaign #politics #influence #changemanagement #mindset

This is a story of the perils of a two-party system, the cunning of #political strategy, and the fallibility of human heuristics all rolled into one – to say nothing of information echo chambers – but I still believe in a rising group of #leaders who will promote constructive #debate over polarizing division. https://lnkd.in/eJcAcqjq

My ears👂🏼 pricked up the other day when listening to the Kay Burley Sky News interview 📺 with Sir Ed Davey, the former Postal Minister in 2010 who blamed THE SYSTEM ... systems are always a hot topic at TMI. In summary he said, “It was run at arm’s length and needed to change, I didn’t realise there was a scandal. The system was wrong, the system is broken, I didn’t realise it was broken at the time, that was the system.” It’s a pity Edward Deming wasn’t available for comment, or he would have said “In spite of the fact that management is responsible for the system, or lack of the system, I find in my experience that very few people in industry know what constitutes a system.” [As is proven at the Post Office] also “A bad system will beat a good person every time!” W. Edwards Deming. The post office is an extreme, devastating example of what happens when systems are broken, and leaders disengage while defending the indefensible 😥 This is why Shingo works: Systems are complex and in order to unravel 🧶complexity you need to understand that ideal results require ideal behaviour. The more you understand this principle, the better you can inform behaviour because purpose and systems drive behaviour. The better you can inform ideal behaviour, the better you can design the systems that drive it. Finally, principles inform ideal behaviour, and quite simply, the better the systems that drive ideal behaviour, the better you are at achieving ideal results, and this is Shingo. While machinegunning questions at Ed, Kay asked him if he was sorry that he hadn’t been more inquisitive. Curiosity is often seen as a soft skill, but I think it is a crucial trait of effective leadership 👍🏼 It not only drives innovation but also maximises opportunities and ones persistent ability to embrace challenges. Having a desire for knowledge and understanding leads to constantly asking questions and at the TMI, we believe that the questions are often more important than the answers and that systems drive this behaviour 🙌🏼 If your curious about Shingo and how it supports Systems Design, leaders and business then just send me a DM or drop me an email lisa.riley@themfgi.co.uk. #leadership #curiosity #continuousimprovement #systemsdesign #shingo https://lnkd.in/eeWngyaW
