🌊🌍 Hey LinkedIn Community! Let's talk about something important: keeping our waterways clean. Did you know that in Florida, our storm drains don't have grates to stop trash from entering our rivers and oceans? This means that any litter on the streets can easily end up polluting our beautiful waterways. 🚯 Every piece of trash that makes its way into a storm drain has the potential to harm marine life, disrupt ecosystems, and degrade the natural beauty of Tampa Bay. By taking simple steps like properly disposing of waste, participating in our local clean-up efforts, and educating others about the impact of littering, we can all contribute to a cleaner, healthier planet. 🌿 Let's take pride in our community and set an example for others. Remember, every little bit helps, and together, we can make a big difference. 🌊💙Thank you Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council for funding our storm drain painting initiative. #KeepOurWaterwaysClean #NoTrashInStormDrains #ProtectFlorida #EnvironmentalAwareness #CommunityAction

Check out this great guide document for how one nonprofit works with community partners to put beneficial fire on the ground.
Considering the use of good fire on property you steward? Our guide, developed with our team at Fire Forward and in partnership with Green Valley Farm + Mill and Regenerative Forest Solutions, outlines what you need to know and do if you are interested in bringing good fire back to your land. Find the guide at: https://lnkd.in/gJKibGRQ. It may help you to better assess your readiness in planning, preparing, and supporting a prescribed fire. #goodfire #FireForward #prescribedburns

A debris-filled isn't just an eyesore; it can do real harm to your lawn. If left unattended, debris can damage the underlying grass during the first thaw. In La Plata County, in southwest Colorado, our foresters are working with the National Forest Foundation to develop the Grassy Mountain Project. This Shared Stewardship Project will have some major impacts in the Pine River Watershed and the Forest Lakes Community. Phase One will include thinning work and minimizing ladder fuels. These activities will be a significant step toward reducing risk of catastrophic wildfire, which in turn reduces potential harm to the watershed and protects recreational opportunities. 📷 CSFS/Cox; Current conditions in the Pine River Watershed #NFFGranteesAreGreat #WildfireMitigation #WatershedHealth #ForestManagement

🌍 Let's Talk About Litter! 🚮 Residents of Park & Warley have overwhelmingly expressed their concerns regarding the litter in their local community. Litter might seem like a small issue, but its impact on our communities is significant. 🏙️ It goes beyond aesthetics - it affects our environment, economy, and overall quality of life. 🌿 Environmental Impact: Litter harms wildlife, pollutes waterways, and contributes to climate change through the release of harmful chemicals. 💼 Economic Impact: Cleaning up litter costs communities millions annually, diverting resources from other vital services. 🏡 Quality of Life: Litter decreases property values, reduces community pride, and fosters a negative perception of our neighborhoods. Together, we can make a difference. We’re working alongside Calderdale Council, local orgs, businesses & residents to co-design a response through #UKSPF communities and place funding. Let's raise awareness, educate, and take action to keep our communities clean and thriving. 🌟 #CleanCommunity #LitterFree #CommunityImpact #PrideinPlace

I've gifted this article for anyone to read. "For all the obvious challenges facing South Florida as sea levels surge, one serious threat to public health and the environment remains largely out of sight, but everywhere: Septic tanks. Millions of them dot the American South, a region grappling with some of the planet’s fastest-rising seas, according to a Washington Post analysis. At more than a dozen tide gauges from Texas to North Carolina, sea levels have risen at least 6 inches since 2010 — a change similar to what occurred over the previous five decades. Along those coastlines, swelling seas are driving water tables higher and creating worries in places where septic systems abound, but where officials often lack reliable data about their location or how many might already be compromised. “These are ticking time bombs under the ground that, when they fail, will pollute,” said Andrew Wunderley, executive director of the nonprofit Charleston Waterkeeper, which monitors water quality in the Lowcountry of South Carolina." #stategovernment #localgovernment #waterquality #pollution #globalwarming #climatechange #wildlife #waterpollution #water #sealevelrise

Breaking: Today, President Biden issued an ambitious goal to reconnect, restore, and protect 8 million acres of wetlands and 100,000 miles of rivers and streams by 2030 and challenged states, communities, nonprofits, Tribes, and others to partner in achieving this important work. Pew is one of more than 100 entities that have accepted this challenge. We’ll continue to collaborate with states, Tribes, and others to protect these essential yet at-risk habitats that help: ✅Fight climate change ✅Support wildlife ✅Provide clean drinking water ✅Sustain local economies

Firefighters in the Texas panhandle are currently fighting the largest wildfire in state history. Forests often are the first thing we think of when it comes to wildfire protection and #climateaction, but rural prairies and grasslands are also incredibly important ecosystems worthy of conservation. There would be outrage if someone bulldozed an old-growth forest to build a gas station and apartments, but many folks don't think twice when it comes to native grasslands in places like Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. 🔺 Unlike trees, grasslands store their carbon underground via roots/soil (UC Davis, 2018) 🔺 Grasslands are more reliable "carbon sinks" than forests (UC Davis, 2018) 🔺 All native grasslands in the US could sequester up to 1 billion metric tons of CO2 each year (Jim Blackburn, Baker Institute, Rice University) 🔺 Funding is available to landowners for carbon stored in forests in places like California. Advocates believe the same should be done with grassland. I commend the first responders who are battling the fire and wish for the safety of the Panhandle communities affected, especially the towns of Borger and Pampa.

Today is National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day. Before you burn yard debris, consider alternatives such as chipping or composting. If burning is your only option, please follow these guidelines to keep you and your neighbors safe: https://lnkd.in/eq4pJ4s2

California RCDs are making substantial progress on prescribed burns! … Getting beneficial fire to scale is a critical aspect of California’s Wildfire & Forest Resilience Action Plan. In counties throughout California, Regional Conservation Districts are making a significant impact, getting good fire on the ground, and showing the way on best practices for safe, effective prescribed burns. … Check out a few recent highlights (from Yolo, Trinity, Butte, and Placer counties), as favorable fall and winter conditions have enabled California’s Resource Conservation Districts to make significant progress on prescribed burns. >> https://lnkd.in/ghR7NEtQ … Trinity County Resource Conservation District Butte County Resource Conservation District Placer Resource Conservation District #YoloRCD … #WildfireTaskForce #TaskForceProgress #PrescribedBurn #BeneficialFire
