We need more women on the course because I'm tired of men only asking what my husband does... It always seems to shock people when we play together (and that I can "keep up".) Or that my husband nicely brings up what I do & they're shocked that I'm the risk-taking founder in the relationship😅 I'm lucky to have been playing since I was little and l'm so grateful my dad got me into it. Golf can offer incredible networking. 🙌 But so many women I meet find this sport intimidating, yet it's some of the best networking opportunities one can find. Orgs like Women on Course or local clubs have great intro events to get more women into the sport. For someone who enjoys the outdoors & constantly benefits from the connections made, I want to get more women out there. Pros like Marisa Messana are also a PERFECT resource to get started.
I am never not shocked when conferences or customers send out invites to our team and only include the men to go golf.
Kat Weaver having grown up in a house with four strong women: a CEO of a F100, a Award winning teacher, a Merchandising genius along with a miracle worker mother, I can’t relate. But men are turning the corner. I do my best to help my boys and sometimes I slip. But keep it positive and men will join the movement. This message was perfect. The manbashers could learn from you. When are you next in Dallas?
This is a fabulous post and we are grateful for people like YOU who share the positivity that golf can bring to the table. Hopefully, we will see you one of our Destination Events where the golf is spectacular and so are the attendees!
That's really a cool thing you've got going Kat (and husband!). When I reached a fork in the road where I could learn golf I decided instead to play water polo. It turns out there are few worse choices for networking as an adult (for any gender). Teenage me was a moron. I wouldn't improve gender balance on the golf course but I would definitely make everyone else out there feel just a little better about their game.
I completely understand, and it's one of the reasons I stopped playing golf. After a 25-year break, I've improved from a 16 to a 12 handicap in just a few months. Yet, men still ask the same questions: "Oh, what does your husband do?" They often overlook the fact that women are playing and don't even consider that we are two women in a relationship. I've been fortunate to have played since I was little, thanks to my mom who introduced me to the game. She created the first kids league at our club in Venezuela, which is why I play and why my two cousins are now pros. Women love this sport, and it offers incredible networking opportunities.
Ladies Golf Day, founded in 2022, is where I felt the most support and ignited a love for golf. If in Vancouver, Canada there’s still a few spots left for the September tournament 😍 https://www.ladiesgolfday.com/about-5
When my husband and I both worked for the UN, everyone we met (men and women) always asked what he does. Now I am a founder and CEO of my own company and people still ask my husband (at the UN) what he does. So, I make it a point to always ask the wife what she does. Nothing changes unless we change it.
