Welcome Cure51 to the Sofinnova family! Sofinnova Partners, Digital Medicine strategy led the €15 million seed funding round for Cure51, driving a paradigm shift in cancer research by focusing on what drives survival, rather than the disease. Their exceptional team and robust clinical network are unlocking these secrets for all patients. Cure51, was founded in March 2022 by Nicolas Wolikow and Simon Istolainen, alongside seasoned entrepreneurs and five world-renowned oncology centers. They aim to pioneer the creation of the world's first global clinical and molecular database of cancer survivors, by rewriting the narrative of cancer. Rather than focusing on the disease mechanisms, Cure51 studies outliers – those individuals who defy statistics and miraculously survive the most aggressive forms of cancer, including metastatic stage pancreatic cancer and glioblastoma. The new funding will enable Cure51 to build a unique cohort, exploring the molecular processes by which certain cancer patients survive for very extended periods of time despite having highly aggressive forms of the disease. NFCR would like to congratulate io9 Inc. for being named one of the hottest life sciences companies in Southern California by Connect, the Southern California technology industry group. io9 was one of 15 life science companies selected from hundreds of applicants. Among the co-founders, Dr. Webster Cavenee is Chair of the NFCR Scientific Advisory Board and the 2007 winner of the Szent-Györgyi Prize for Progress in Cancer Research. Another co-founder, Dr. Scott Lippman, also serves on the Scientific Advisory Board for NFCR.
