In June 2023, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced a new delivery model of care focused on increasing access to quality primary care services, called the Making Care Primary Model. In response to the rise in #telehealth adoption and use in the United States following the #COVID19 pandemic, North Carolina rapidly evolved its telehealth coverage and reimbursement policies, finding that there were persistent inequities in telehealth offer rates and utilization for #Medicaid and #CHIP enrollees by race and ethnicity. In a new issue brief written in collaboration with Milbank Memorial Fund and the NC Department of Health and Human Services’ Shannon Dowler and Sam Thompson, Manatt Health’s Jared Augenstein, Jacqueline Marks Smith and Michelle Savuto analyze North Carolina’s Medicaid findings and offer strategies to improve equitable access to and delivery of telehealth services. Medicaid redetermination (also called Medicaid "unwinding" or "renewal") is an equity issue. One year after the federal government terminated the pandemic-era policy allowing for continuous Medicaid enrollment, Community Health Centers and their patients are still feeling the fallout.
