I wrote a few words to explain why (and how) WIRED is covering politics this year. I'd be remiss not to mention that WIRED has a long history covering politics and national affairs, including stellar work under Nicholas Thompson. Our 2024 politics investment represents a recommitment to that coverage, at a moment when it's never been more consequential for our collective future. "Across the US election and many more—including key votes in India, Ukraine, and Mexico—we’re going to examine both the campaigns and the election stakes through a digital lens, focusing on disinformation, online extremism, conspiracies, social platforms, election influencers and grifters, the influence of AI, and more." Love this - especially the global focus.

Important and correct decision to cover elections. Roughly HALF of the world’s population live in countries that are having national elections this year and #AI- generated minsinformation according to experts, will actually change outcomes in some (or more!) of these results. I wrote about this for Newsweek a few weeks ago: https://www.newsweek.com/around-world-ai-enabled-deep-fakes-are-poised-upend-elections-opinion-1879810
