I was preparing questions for one of our EVPs. I was writing around a theme with a lot of attention in our organization – when growing we add complexity to teams and employees. When writing, I realized that I was preparing a stupid question... Because there is only one answer to that. A simple answer I know well from working with startups: When you grow, you scale by splitting teams. You can split in many ways (vertically, horizontally, spin off etc.) but not to drown in complexity and keep focus you need to split. When too much on the plate you need 2 plates.
It may be difficult to let go of something, but that is the name of the game. And much better than consolidating because of decline… ;-)
