Philanthropy content and communications specialist

I couldn’t have put it better myself! Thank you Anaid Benitez, Daniel Leonce and Ateeb Khan for joining us at Downing Street last week to thank the generous donors who support Cancer Research UK (CRUK). There’s nothing I love more than helping shape the scientific stories at these events, and inspiring our supporters in new and surprising ways. It was a fantastic event, and we have had great feedback about how all three of these wonderful scientists brought their work to life. It was a pleasure to help deliver it! #cancerresearch #sciencestories #philanthropy

Does personalised medicine align with the UK healthcare system? 🤔 What's the rationale behind commercialising IP created with charity money? 💸 Why was transitioning into industry historically seen as going to the dark side? 🌑 Last week, I had the surreal experience of being invited to Downing Street 😝 by Cancer Research UK (CRUK) to represent The Francis Crick Institute at a philanthropic event, along with the brilliant automation scientist Daniel Leonce and the ever-enthusiastic Ateeb Khan from the City of London Centre. We discussed these topics and much more, diving deep into the future of #healthcare and #innovation. I got schooled on private equity and venture capital investment by Joey Horn, and Bjorn Saven challenged me to know the difference between a ‘business’ and a ‘company’. What would you have answered? 🤓 I also spoke about the 𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐬. My mission? To make personalised medicine a reality. 🌟 I learned about 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐒𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬— a fundraising event where women from different nationalities come together to raise money for Cancer Research UK (CRUK). 🌍 https://lnkd.in/e9vKbpqx The event was 𝐮𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞, filled with incredible personalities, lots of donor love, and the best dressed award definitely goes to 𝐋𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐖𝐨𝐥𝐟𝐬𝐨𝐧, who had a blast trying to guess where my mixed accent came from! 🥰 And to top it all off, we were lucky enough to finish the night with an incredible dinner at The British Academy (woah)! 🍽️ 😊 A 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮 to all the generous donors that couldn't stop thanking us for our work. I wish I could bottle up all the 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 🌟 given to me and sprinkle it across the entire Crick and every other institute. 🧪 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝, 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝, put in incredible hours through nights and weekends. They become so engrossed in their lab, the next experiment, grants and manuscript submissions that they easily lose track of time, life, and self. Your support not only 𝐟𝐮𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 but also reminds us of the greater purpose behind every effort. 💪❤️
