🌟What a day!!!
Excited to share that I had the incredible opportunity to speak at RecFest UK the largest talent acquisition business festival in the world!
🙏 Huge Thank-you to Glenn Martin for inviting me to the amazing panel he hosted on the Unplugged Stage, which was MCed by Akbar Karenga. I joined fellow panelists Sean AllenJess Wetton and Matyas Tamasi Carvalho to discuss the transition from I-shaped to T-shaped talent search, emphasizing the importance of diversifying skill sets. For those unfamiliar, an I-shaped career focuses on deep expertise in one area, while a T-shaped career combines deep expertise with broader skills across various areas.
💡A key point I highlighted was how people from marginalized backgrounds often face disadvantages in being hired based on skills that have been 100% proved over and over again, whereas those from the dominant culture are often hired based on their potential and what they might achieve. This disparity can further disadvantage marginalized individuals in T-shaped talent searches. We must look beyond just proven experience and consider potential and attitudes in everyone to truly embrace diversity and inclusion, especially considering that the lifespan of many skills is rapidly srinking to 2.5-5 years.
📜 We also discussed the importance of making diversity and inclusion policies accessible and actionable - developing options as opposed to blanket solutions.
🎉 After the panel, I was pleasantly surprised by how relaxed and liberated the event felt—it was unlike any other professional event I've attended. With glitter, garden games, stilt walkers, and much more, trully more a festival than a business conference!
🤝 It was lovely to catch up with old friends - Daniele Fiandaca and Lee Chambers and make a few new ones. Amongst the fanfare, I had many super stimulating and cool conversations. Two highlights were my chat with Theo Smith about neurobariayons and the benefits for everyone when thoughtful neuroinclusion is implemented; and a fascinating discussion with Sally Pritchett about combining B Corp and employee-owned business approaches, which has a lot of positive aspects for diversity and inclusion.
📸It was also awesome to finally meet Logan McGregor in person - thanks for taking all the actually relevant photos and videos!

Reflecting on my journey through various workplaces, I’m continually reminded of the profound impact that seemingly small gestures can have on building a sense of community and belonging. A practice that stands out in its simplicity and significance is the act of greeting colleagues with a ‘hello’ as we go about our day. This gesture, though small, plays a crucial role in fostering an environment where everyone feels seen and acknowledged.
This belief in the power of acknowledgment was instilled in me during my very first job at Club Med, where daily, we encountered hundreds of customers. Our manager, the ‘chef du village,’ offered a piece of advice that has profoundly influenced my approach to interactions ever since. He said, “I don’t care how many times a day and in how many languages you do it; I don’t expect you to remember every customer. What is important is making sure not a single one feels forgotten. Just say hello and smile.”
This lesson has stayed with me, highlighting the importance of making every individual feel valued and included, regardless of the setting. It’s a reminder that through our daily actions, no matter how small, we have the power to contribute to a more inclusive and welcoming environment.
Let’s cherish and practice the power of a simple ‘hello’ and a smile, for these are the gestures that can make all the difference.

As I recently crossed the threshold of 7,000 connections here on LinkedIn,
I took a moment to reflect on the journey that each connection represents. This isn't just a number; it's a mosaic of interactions, shared knowledge, and mutual growth that spans across various sectors – from Insurance Claims, Retail, Academia and Public Health to my current endeavors in Corporate Health.
Throughout my career, I've been driven by a mission that goes beyond job titles and industries. It's about breaking barriers and creating spaces where diversity isn't just welcomed, it's celebrated.
The narrative that "we don't have enough Black and Brown professionals to hire" has echoed through the corridors of our professional landscapes for far too long. Determined to challenge this narrative, I made it my mission to connect with every Black and Hispanic professional I encountered, aspiring to weave a richer tapestry of representation and opportunity in our professional world.
These connections have been nothing short of transformative. Among you are individuals who have become not just colleagues, but great friends and pivotal influences in my career. The conversations, the shared dreams, the challenges we've navigated, and the successes we've celebrated together have all contributed to a community that is vibrant, resilient, and endlessly inspiring.
I am immensely thankful for each and every one of you. You have enriched my professional life in more ways than I can count, and it is my hope that our connections continue to be a source of strength, inspiration, and mutual growth. As we look to the future, let's keep championing diversity, fostering inclusive networks, and building pathways for the next generation of talent.
Here's to our continued collaboration, friendship, and the endless possibilities that lie ahead.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. 💼🤝✨

These are the friendly faces behind the Proudr events in Berlin.
What is Proudr about?
Proudr afterworks are monthly career related meetings for queer people and allies. We organize speed or slow networking sessions and give an open stage to people wanting to pitch a topic.
The ambassador team was used to meeting up once a month ahead of the event to catch up, work out feedback and prepare the following afterwork.
Then we stopped.
Why were - and are - these offline meetings so important to me?
📣 We encourage our guests to give us honest feedback in order to keep up the level or improve the experience at our events.
Guess what? Queer afterworks are not always trouble-free.
And it's okay - we are all humans and different. Combining several characters, experiences and sensitivities within a community can be a challenge.
That's why we need to reflect these evenings together, try to find solutions to better cope with a touchy situation next time.
Sometimes it is also good to think about the project as a whole:
👉🏻 Who can still stand listening to our welcome speech?
👉🏻 Who is dreaming of crushing our speed-networking-bicycle-bell?
👉🏻 How does the audience look like? As diverse as our community?
👉🏻 Why should they keep on coming to these events?
👉🏻 Do people rather develop a bound to the community through habit or new experiences?
And last but not least - we work as a team. But we do not have time to chit-chat with each other during afterworks.
How can we grow as a team if we are not getting to know each other? That is why I am highly supporting offline meetings with the other ambassadors - and first of all, it is always a nice moment.
Do you want to check out?
Our next event takes place on Thursday, May 14th at the SchwuZ.
You will find the link to the free tickets in the comments section.

Today we're talking about what it's like to work at Mitre 10.
And to be fair, we’re sticking our neck out a little.
We’ve never really had an employment brand before, even though we’re 50 years young this year!
But it’s hard to ignore what the research says and what you know deep down yourself.
It’s time for us to be loud and proud of our unique legacy.
So, for the past year, we’ve been on a journey to discover what it’s genuinely like to be part of team orange.
Turns out it’s this:
He Whānau Kotahi Tātou. We’re Family.
It’s a bold and simple statement about who we are. It’s both a fact and a feeling.
We are a family of families - working together as a cooperative to be one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most trusted and much-loved brands. We have family ownership deeply ingrained in our history – some going five + generations for 150 years or more. We honour those who built stores in local communities throughout Aotearoa and formed our cooperative.
We’re also a meeting of minds by the very nature of our cooperative, bringing together the talent of 65 member business owners and creating a truly unique spirit.
We attract people from diverse backgrounds because that’s New Zealand – a cultural melting pot of people that reflect our customers too.
The decision to run with He Whānau Kotahi Tātou, We’re Family was very carefully considered, as explained by Celena Harry, Chief People Officer at Mitre 10:
“We were aware of the discussions around associating family and work but in Mitre 10’s case, the analogy is grounded in truth.
“We believe that our team members are not just colleagues, but people who support, trust, and care for each other. And this showed up strongly in our 2023 engagement survey (90% response rate) when 86% of team members responded they feel like part of a family at work; 90% said their team is supportive of one another like a family would be; and 93% of people said their colleagues care about them as a person and not just as a worker.”
Since 1974 we’ve been helping our customers and local communities love where they live, work and play. And we couldn’t have done it without our amazing 8,000 + team members who are truly the heart and soul of our co-operative.
We are family and this place feels like home.

At Reach, it seems that we have developed some of our own words. We celebrate Reachiversaies and call team members, Reachers, but the word I like most is "Reachify". Being in People Operations, I say this word daily.
My definition of this verb is to take something and flip it sideways, approach the challenge with deep curiosity, find a balance between head and heart, and never settle for the "this is the way it has always been done".
How do we address "people" issues in a Reachified way? How do you help establish guardrails and frameworks so that people can succeed, but not impose policies and red tape where it is not needed (or welcomed)? How do we approach recruiting in a way that is welcoming, inclusive, and focuses simultaneously on getting the best person for our team while prioritizing the applicant experience? How do we support learning and development so that each team member can truly thrive and flourish as a human being?
The list goes on and on.
It is this level of creative, people-centered thinking that has me excited about the week to come. At Reach, even the role of People Operations is Reachified!
