As we near the conclusion of this remarkable month, while paying tribute to #HispanicHeritageMonth, I wish to extend my recognition and continuous celebration of our Hispanic entrepreneurs, visionaries, disruptors, and leaders. Their unwavering commitment to effecting positive change and leaving a lasting impact on our communities and daily lives is truly commendable. Our Hispanic community plays a pivotal and indispensable role in the U.S. economy, yet we also remain steadfast in our commitment to our roots and supporting our heritage. “According to the Joint Economic Committee Hispanic Entrepreneurship and Business Brief: Nearly one in four new businesses is Hispanic-owned. The nearly 5 million Hispanic-owned businesses in the United States contribute more than $800 billion to the American economy annually.” ✔️There are over 375,000 Hispanic-owned, employer businesses located across all 50 states and the District of Columbia. These enterprises employ at least one employee other than the owner. ✔️Hispanic employer businesses employ about 1 million workers, with more than $100 billion in annual payroll. The number of Hispanic-owned businesses that employ at least one employee other than the owner increased by 14% between 2012 and 2017 — more than twice as fast as the national average. ✔️In the decade preceding the pandemic, the number of Hispanic business owners increased 34% compared to an increase of just 1% among non-Hispanic business owners. Today, Los Angeles celebrates great diversity and a rich blend of cultures. Black political power in Compton in the 1970s and immigration in the 1980s are two components, of many, that have added to our diverse, present-day population. Nevertheless, communities of color and immigrant communities are historically and systemically underserved, and often experience greater rates of poverty than their white counterparts. This was glaringly the case in the ’80s as many immigrants attempted to find solace in L.A. The racial and ethnic makeup of L.A. in the ‘80s contrasted by systemic biases, which created disproportionate rates of poverty and unemployment, set the backdrop for Bet Tzedek’s early work. Since our origin, we have provided #FREE legal help to Angelenos of all racial and ethnic backgrounds and immigration statuses. Did you know that as recently as 2017, five towns and cities in Prince George’s County were among the 10 most affluent African American communities in the US? Home to WHC’s Hamilton Manor community in Hyattsville, MD, Prince George's County has carried the unique distinction of the country's wealthiest majority-Black county for decades. Due to post-pandemic migration, neighboring Charles County has recently taken over this distinction. Before the 1968 Fair Housing Act, Prince George’s County was a segregated county, making it difficult if not impossible for African Americans to buy homes freely throughout the county. After the passing of the #FairHousingAct and with African Americans gaining wealth from lucrative federal government jobs, more Black families began moving into #PGCounty for community, more space, and better schools. New Entry on the #OhioMBE Wall of Shame: Columbus City Council We stand for #FairnessInBusiness & it's with concern we address the Council's recent 5-2 vote allowing non-citizens to bid on city projects & apply for certifications. This move potentially sidelines our local, minority-owned businesses, who are already facing an uphill battle. Moreover, the dismissive attitude of certain members, notably an "honorary" white woman council member Lourdes Barroso de Padilla, towards our Black community leaders is unacceptable. Respectful dialogue is key, and anything less is a disservice to our community. We urge the Columbus City Council to reevaluate their policies & conduct. 🌟 Community Solutions, Inc. celebrates Juneteenth! 🌟 On June 19, 1865, Union troops announced in Galveston, Texas, that all enslaved African Americans were free. This day, known as Juneteenth, marks a pivotal moment in history—emancipation from slavery in the U.S.  Our CEO Fernando Muñiz reflects, “Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. It is a celebration of freedom and a reminder that the moral arc of the universe bends toward justice. This Juneteenth, we recommit ourselves to the work of equity and justice.” As an organization working in the criminal and juvenile justice systems, Community Solutions, Inc. is dedicated to ensuring that justice is not delayed for the people we serve. A great organization and a highly worthwhile focus.

Today we commemorate #Juneteenth, which marks the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce that the Civil War had ended and that all enslaved people were free — two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.   While slavery was abolished, we know that racism and inequalities persist to this day. Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of the struggle for freedom, equality, and human rights.    At WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, we believe businesses have an important role to play in reducing inequality and generating inclusive growth that can be enjoyed by all. Through our work with The Business Commission to Tackle Inequality, we are working to build a more just and equitable world through a shared focus on action, accountability, and ambition. Addressing inequality is both our responsibility and an opportunity for positive change.   On this Juneteenth, we recommit ourselves to being allies and agents of positive change. We continue striving for a world of dignity, respect, and opportunity for all people, regardless of race.   Join us in reflecting on our progress and renewing our dedication to justice, anti-racism efforts, and achieving equity. Together, we can create a more sustainable and equitable future where all can thrive.
