Stop the scroll! How? Master the art of genre-aligned hook lines. One secret to better hook lines is simple. And it’s taken from film: ➡ Be clear about the “genre” of your post. Great creator posts match genres (aka "post types"). And their hook lines tell the reader what "genre" of post they are about to read. They manage the reader's expectation well. What happens of the hook doesn't match the post? Using a mismatching hook is like being promised to watch a Rom-Com and after one minute you realise it’s an action movie. You tolerate this once. But if this happens a couple of times you stop listening to your friends film tip. Do you know in how many different "genres" you write on LinkedIn? 4000+ authors publish books on Amazon EVERY DAY. 1500+ new games are uploaded to Steam every month. I more or less knew these statistics when I first entered the entertainment industries of books, games, and short film productions. There are two ways to think about this. If I thought my single book, short film, or game was going to change the world, seeing statistics like these would not only be disheartening, but devastating. However if I think of my works as a collective contributions to demonstrating the works of the Kingdom on earth, than it's exciting. Many authors all over the world who love Jesus are publishing books that show who Jesus REALLY is; not the Americanized version. The same applies for games and films. Getting discouraged and giving up doesn't happen because God hasn't called us. It often happens because we have wrong expectations. I am not called to be an author. I am not called to be a video game developer. I am not called to Hollywood to create short films. I'm not even called to be an entrepreneur. I am called to be a "Sent One." I am called to be one who is sent to the refugees, the depressed, the demonized, and the sick. I am called to share the hope that I have found that has set me free from suicidal tendencies. We are called to heal the sick, raise the dead and cast out demons from those that are oppressed and depressed. These are not metaphors. Religion is form without power. Being a disciple of Jesus fills us with power, love, and hope to share with those around us who are suffering and need real solutions instead of religious answers. What you do for work isn't who you are. Rather, what you do for work and how you do it is a reflection of who you are. If the work you do is a reflection of one who has ulterior motives, people will see right through you. But, if the work you do is a reflection of one who genuinely loves people and has a desire to bring hope to the world, people will see Jesus. #ItsNotAboutYou #VribyssRefuge #trustgodsplan

From Script to Screen: The Life of a Screenplay

One of the reasons why I like to watch movies or read books is it helps give us a sneak peek into the writer's or author's mind in where their works were first originally conceived. A movie could be an idea of what happened to them or their friends in their lives, or if they want to create an emotional setting to give out any message or share their piece of mind on any concept. Movies or books are highly provocative in impacting their viewers however short or long a period it may be. Some works are so outstanding that they make us question our deeply embedded beliefs or values. Some movies might hand-hold us and say what they want to say. Whereas a few creators resort to emotional drama, and intense scenes and tear us emotionally to make us live through their experiences. Both parties are equally blessed to have fantastically used the gifted ability to perceive these wonders. The creators have the opportunity of sharing with the world what they had conceived in their minds and we as the audience or critics have the privilege of enjoying their work anytime. Delving into other people's minds is for sure intriguing!

Rough cut warning: Enclosed is a "video" that does not yet contain actual video or audio. Instead, it is the content outline that begins to answer a couple of questions I received from someone who has seen my repeat posts about The Movie Institute. Once this person realized we do not preserve old movies, they were confused about our mission and purpose. The questions I received were: 1. Why do children need a movie studio? and 2. What do you do to help the community? This rough cut does not fully answer both questions, as I think that information is longer than what I could put in a video short. I thought I might put together three short videos to speak to the two questions above and the unasked question of why/how movie making solves a problem in the community for kids of all kinds, from all different backgrounds who face different challenges. So... how helpful is the rough cut in answering question 2 on the list? I will leverage the feedback to finalize a proper video and make sure we also get content shared on the website and other social media channels to help folks better understand what we do and why it matters. Thanks to those of you who take a look. It is important that we receive feedback so that we can continue to improve our content and help quantify the value that we bring as we work to expand our positive impact in the community.

I've never really been a fan of new year's resolutions. But in 2024, there's one thing I'm resolute to do; use my whole ass. 🍑 Confused? Let me explain. All my life, I've been what you would call an inquiring mind - and a very creative one at that. I want to try my hand at EVERYTHING. In 2023, for example, I: - Wrote half a novel. - Wrote a TV-series pilot screenplay. - Wrote a novella, then published it on Kindle. - Played three open mic stand up comedy shows. - Wrote and DMed a Dungeons & Dragons campaign. - Tried (and failed) to learn to play the harmonica. - Created a tech demo for my own one-person indie JRPG video game. - Wrote a cubic fuckton of marketing-related copy and content. - Started posting of LinkedIn semi-regularly. - Worked on my own personal website (which is still unpublished). - Started another dozen creative projects that never made it past the drawing board stage. Know what all these things have in common? I half-assed all of them. As I grow older (and more knowledgeable about stuff) it's becoming apparent that I can't divide my focus and attention to a bazillion little things and expect any of them to turn out the way I want them to. (I'm kind of a perfectionist, too - did I mention that?) In 2023, half-assing a dozen different pursuits at the same time left me tired, burnt-out, and more-or-less disappointed. In 2024, my resolution is to not make that same mistake. I've picked one thing (or maybe two - cut me some slack!), and I intend to thoroughly whole-ass them to perfection. Cheers to a year of using our whole asses! 🍑

How do you make the sheer act of doing nothing or slacking off with a book or an ott video series, work for you? I have discovered that the time when i am not involved in active creation are the most fertile moments for me. These times spawn idea that take shape when the time comes. Let me tell you something that happened just 2 days back- This story goes back 6 months or more. i bought a book by an author i had never heard of. it was about a woman recovering from a divorce from a man she loved to bits and I liked the way the blurb was written. I read the book from here and there and then dropped it. A few days later , I started thinking about the book...the characters, incidents,plot line, and also the things I liked and didn't like about the book. Actually 'started thinking' is the wrong way of putting it as these thoughts just started popping into my consciousness when I wasn't doing anything much. I sorted these thoughts out logically and almost wrote a cool screenplay in my head. 2 days back, a friend suggested that I write a screenplay for a short film. Problem- they had no story and time was limited. I said yes, because I had 2 story ideas that could be adapted into screenplays fast, ferrated away in my head somewhere. So all I did was to type the screenplay down and add value to it. My learning- keep dropping fertile ideas into your mind by reading books and watching films and docus.
