For most of my chaplaincy career, I would often colloquially refer to my clinical note as my spiritual assessment (clinical note = spiritual assessment). With my PhD work concerning the #palliativecare chaplain’s clinical note, I have discontinued this conversational reference. The #spiritualassessment is arguably the most important part of a chaplain's note. But it is just that, a part. #Chaplain clinical notes are also made up of other aspects contributing to the holistic care for patients and their care recipients. One slice of this work beyond the chaplain’s spiritual assessment is explored with this manuscript. The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Preventive Activities in General Practice "The Red Book" 10th edition was released recently. Big news for all GPs and primary care nurses across the country....the screening, identification and assessment of #frailty is now a recommended activity for all community dwelling people aged 75+, and 65-74 with risk factors for frailty. The updated Red book has a whole chapter on the topic of frailty, plus information on the frailty screening tools, and the objective assessments of sarcopenia which should both be used in every 75+ health assessment. By the way, discussing "Muscle Health Checks" with your older patients is much more engaging than suggesting a person have a "frailty check" :-) 😁 20% of people aged 65+ are living with frailty. It is a long term condition for which interventions exist to change the trajectory, and to prevent the complications. It just needs to be recognised! My first article on the interpretations of competence in home care for older people is out now in International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being! As hinted in the title the article suggests that the concept of competence is a process of becoming rather than a fixed set of tools.

NPs are one part of the solution so all Americans can access a primary care or mental health provider. CATO Institute highlights what NP's do well- providing safe, high quality and accessible care. #npslead #access #quality #nursepractitioners
Today, a study by researchers at the University of California Los Angeles, Stanford University, and Yale University appears in the Annals of Internal Medicine that further debunks claims that NPs provide poor‐quality care.

A very nice article by Dr. Sulmasy about how spirituality is often entertwined with health care and how chaplains are important members of the care team. #spirituality #religion #chaplain #physicians #nurses #bioethics "It’s important to define the scope of the physician’s role in addressing patients’ spiritual needs. It is not the role of the physician to provide spiritual care. Few physicians have the requisite expertise, and there is an ancient ethical obligation for physicians to refer to specialized practitioners when they are not qualified to provide a particular form of care. Moreover, a healthy division of roles can be helpful to patients, who might not want to address all their spiritual concerns with their physicians. Chaplains are the experts in spiritual care and, like other members of health care teams, have ethical duties such as respecting confidentiality. Hospice and palliative care provide an ideal model for including chaplains as members of a team, alongside physicians, nurses, and social workers."

Staff-Led Loving Workflows in Care Delivery 💙 ♦ A Loving Organization - Culture Change ♦ Train the Trainer Facilitator Certification Program for Leaders & Managers ♦ 20 Years Consulting, Training, Speaking in Healthcare
Giovanna Navarro - I've always been a big fan of Dr Joe Dispenza's work. He's a brilliant kindred spirit and teacher! However, my guess is he, like the few others who have figured out energetic/transformational growth in self/individuals, is challenged taking it to healthcare (HC) organizations, where likely we can do the most good. I find it somewhat remarkable that HC is still so resistant to the fact everything is energy. HC never stops talking about the importance of "evidence" being the key to good care delivery and outcomes. Yet, the fact that different types of energy produce different outcomes is rarely considered as evidence. I believe fear/stress energy, evidenced by Nobel Prize-winning systems science, rules the the current stressed/dysfunctional workflows of care delivery. This stress energy creates the many woes of HC, both for patients and staff and ultimately, Admin. The solution? A transformation of that energy, both physical and mental, to love. More fear and control has only made things worse. Let's get practical and stop doing the same things over and over expecting a different result. Let's get practical and give love a chance. 💙💙 #ALovingOrganization #LovingWorkflows #3DHealthcare #ByeByeBurnout
