What we’ve learnt producing our new daily podcast for The Telegraph. Week one under our belt… However many bumps you encounter (and we’ve hit a few) you have to keep pushing forward. The recording time never moves (1pm) so everything is “what’s the solution” rather than “oh my goodness”. Your team is everything. As issues become tenser, it’s important to become calmer, not more panicked. Like patting your head and rubbing your stomach at the same time - do the opposite of what you feel you should be doing. It works. I am lucky in having a super-pro partner presenter, Camilla Tominey. We have both done plenty of live broadcasting, so know the levers (often our own personal techniques) to pull. Our team of brilliant producers sit in the gallery fixing things as we go. Debrief at the end of day, every day and agree to improve one or two things. Not “everything”. Like charging a battery - the first bit is easier. The final 20% takes time. The world of creative content production is rarely perfect - even if you would like it to be. Mistakes and snafus are part of the process. Learn to live with messy edges and iron them out one by one - don’t worry, new ones will appear. Keep reminding yourself why you are all working so hard - in this case to produce a podcast that uniquely brings a newsroom to life, celebrates your colleagues’ work and helps audiences understand the world around them. Good chat, not too much ideology. Don’t forget to breathe out, and share the link to The Daily T as far and wide as possible https://lnkd.in/e_knHH88. And don’t worry too much about the audience figures at the beginning. But do be very happy when Apple say you have gone in at #3 on the most listened to news pods👇🏽😎.
I've been listening daily and it's very very good. It has the feel of exactly what you say you want. Only one segment - the Ozempic - missed for me the mark as it needed in my view a political analysis: why are we being told weight loss drugs are the new statins? A personal story from an insider did not feel enough. But the rest felt very very fresh and I felt glued.
It feels as if there are finally some grown ups in the room. No arguments, shouting over one another, or outright abuse, just interesting, intelligent but more importantly, civilised discussion. Wonderful!
Enjoyed what I’ve heard so far
Bravo! Launching anything new is tough but you two are a great team
A fantastic first week!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Excellent way to hit the ground running, Kamal and team. Well done!
Congrats and nice battery analogy!

2moCongratulations on a good launch. “But do be very happy when Apple say you have gone in at #3 on the most listened to news pods” - they don’t, of course, say this. The chart is a trending chart, and reflects that you’ve done a great job marketing your show and getting a lot of followers in the first week. It’s still something to be celebrated; but accuracy is all important! https://podnews.net/article/understanding-podcast-statistics
