Empowering Community Excellence: A Day of Insight and Opportunity at Birmingham's Black Business Show! I went to the NEC for the Birmingham Black Business Show. This was my third time at the event and every year I appreciate the opportunity to speak to trailblazers from across the black community, whether that’s people from social enterprises to multinational corporations, to students. In the past two years I had gone with the aim to get, but this year was different. I was here for a specific purpose. I want to give my people the opportunity to excel in property. I want to give us the opportunity to build a property network. I attended some incredible talks and panel discussions that made me see opportunities that I would have never thought of. Here are some that I real enjoyed: Impactful session with Goldman Sachs How to become a 6 figure speaker in 90 days Attracting and developing the right talent for business success Navigating loneliness at the top. My favourite talk of the day was 10 golden rules of negotiation. This was a fantastic presentation from Horace McDonald. He spoke about techniques on how to improve your skills as a negotiator. These were my 4 key take aways; 1.     Know what you want. Have specific prioritised objectives and limits. 2.     Ask questions and listen to understand not just to respond. 3.     Don’t give things away trade. This can be phrased like this “If you… Then I will…” 4.     Agree what has been agreed. Time is also a constraint in a negotiation you don’t want to go back to things that have already been agreed. But did I have time to promote my event? Whilst listening to all these great talks I knew I was also there for a reason. And I’m proud to say I achieved my goal. I spoke to a plethora of attendees, speakers and exhibitors. I had a lot of people sign up to the waiting list for my event. My main aim is to get people to think. To look out and expand their minds. That property is an opportunity for us. That we can work with our brothers and sisters to fund bigger projects. This year, I almost didn’t go to one of the biggest events of the year for Black Business and entrepreneurship. And then I was reminded recently that each and everyone of us has something incredible to offer and it is up to us to show up and to be in the room. 😍🎉🙌🏾🔥 Last Saturday, I attended the UK Black Business Show. It was a jam-packed agenda with many great speakers, insights and opportunities to convene in smaller round table discussions. A brilliant market-place filled with Black owned businesses and opportunities to network with new and old friends. A presence by large corporations who are active in seeking diverse talent, and suppliers to create diversity, equity and inclusion in their workplaces. My biggest biggest takeaways from the conference were: 🎯 Build your self belief 🎯 Embrace your creativity - Employers are seeking it right now! 🎯 Use AI to your advantage 🎯 There is power in failure and it can help you to be successful when you use the insight to adapt and pivot Thank you to Raphael Sofoluke and the team for an incredible event. 🎉🎉🎉🎉 It was great to meet with many of my LinkedIn community, meet new people and deepen relationships with my awesome professional community. Because together we go further faster. TWO Magazines, ONE Aim... On Saturday I went to the UK Black Business Show, an event created to #inspire & #connect #Black #Business #Owners & #Professionals. 👏🏾 Massive thanks to Raphael Sofoluke, Michael Adeniya and the team for putting on a consistently excellent event! If you weren't there, plan to be there next year 📅 We loved seeing old & new friends and meeting people we'd only seen online. One of the highlights for me was meeting Dr Tru Powell and congratulating him and Justice Williams MBE for creating Black Business Magazine to add to the UK's #media landscape. 📣 Having another #magazine alongside Pitch Black Magazine that highlights and shines a spotlight on the #impact & #influence of #BlackEntrepreneurs & #BlackProfessionals can never be a bad thing. There's more than enough room as there's a plethora of stories to tell... Judy & I never want to be arrogant, thinking that we should be the only custodians & curators of this space. Why? ❌ Because, it's not a zero sum game. Just met my guys at the airport headed to Belize for our quarterly Wealthy Black CEO Camp and I just saw a clip of Diddy being interviewed at InvestFest… …and he’s talking about how he fired his business manger and hired a CFO and then goes on to say… “That’s one of the first people y’all need to hire…a CFO!” This is why we gotta be very careful who we listen to, the events we attend and those of us hosting events have to be careful of the people we’re putting on our stages to speak into our people. I ain’t discounting what Diddy has accomplished… However that’s very generic advice and could be detrimental to some entrepreneurs depending on where they are in their business… …if I had to guess, 99% of the audience isn’t even ready for that convo because the average salary for a CFO can be anywhere from low to high 6-figures and 97% of black business owners (the majority of the audience) are sole proprietors. A lot of this advice floating around these days can be a liability, so be careful who you’re listening to... …and a good rule of thumb is to see if what the person is teaching you is principle base or just a “tactic” to fix a symptom of a problem. Prescription without proper diagnosis is malpractice and a lot of these ”influencers” out here committing malpractice (even if just by association) and celebrity or not, they have to be held accountable!
