Medical overuse is not only expensive, it leads to serious patient harms. 🔎 Medical overuse is defined as health care services that :  ✘exceed the individual needs of patients, and ✘when the potential harms of medical interventions exceed their benefits. What is the public perception of medical overuse? These are the results of a German study: 👉58% had never heard of medical overuse 👉Around 50% expressed concerns about medical overuse, perceiving it as a common phenomenon in healthcare 🌟 Suggestions for addressing overuse included: ✔increased patient education ✔transparency in healthcare ✔improved communication between patients and providers. What about reimbursing the family physician for the extra hours they provide to their patients who are sick with cancer or other chronic disease? 3. If we don’t support family physicians who is going to lead all of their care so that all the patient’s needs are met? The general public or politicians who are not involved in health care do not understand what is needed to maintain continuity of care and won’t understand until they or their family has a chronic or terminal illness. #ContinuityofCareisNeeded #WakeupCanada
