The Mrs. Maisel of EdTech.

6 days, 2 conferences, 1 amazing week full of learning and connections! Thank you to all the friends and partners (new and old) who took the time to chat we me and my Huron colleagues, share your challenges, and hopes for the future of higher ed. While I will continue to reflect on my week on my flight home this afternoon, in the spirit of #fridaythoughts, here are a couple of my key take-aways: First-up, #NASFAA2024 - - FAFSA simplification was way more brutal than I ever imagined (and I was already pretty deep in the conversation when I went to #NASFAA2024) - the financial aid leaders in our campus communities are truly "unsung heroes" and the work isn't over yet. Take the time to check-in on your FA colleagues and see how the whole campus community can come together to support them and the students most deeply impacted. - It will be even more critical in the future to align people, process, policy and tech. Have a plan and don't fall into the "way we've always done it here" trap. - Having been adjacent to the "gainful employment" regulations for quite some time, it was helpful to hear directly from the DOE on the topic. While I still think debt/earnings and employment premium calculations are too one-dimensional to measure a very nuanced equation that should balance career purpose and payoff (hmmm...Kaitlin Dumont, didn't you write an article on this for Education Technology Insights? Yes, yes I did - link in comments 😁), as flawed as it is, I believe the spirit is at least a step in the right direction towards measuring the value of a learning experience based on outcomes. Then the #SlateSummit...as my first Slate Summit, all I can say you guys is, "woah"! - When you take a customer-centric approach and iterate your tech product in community, you develop voraciously loyal clients - this is turn leads to updates that both use AI in a way that makes sense to solve problems (seriously, the Slate AI dashboards are next-level), as well as smaller improvements like the ability to copy/paste sub-queries (I think the guy behind me may have actually been crying tears of joy when that was announced). - Regardless of platform, all institutions could benefit from outside perspective and expertise when implementing tech solutions. Especially as staffing models in higher ed will see increased challenges in the future. - Sugar Ray is truly the greatest band of the '90s (#iykyk) Were you there? What were your highlights? Missed it? Do any of these topics resonate with you? I'd love to continue these reflections in community, let me know if you want to chat! #highered #future #innovation #strategy

It was great to see you at Slate! I similarly enjoyed experiencing the reactions of those around me to announcements of new/enhanced Slate features...so many gasps and cheers of excitement.
