Do your properties offer internet as an amenity? The FCC is considering a ban on multifamily single-provider bulk billing for broadband, arguing that residents deserve a choice in who provides their internet. Opponents say that bulk billing allows internet service providers to better bear the cost of their infrastructure installation, knowing they will have guaranteed customers afterward. The FCC's commissioners are currently reviewing the ban but there is no indication of when they may reach a decision. More details at the link below.

Two days ago, the FCC announced FCC efforts to ban bulk billing broadband agreements in multifamily. National Multifamily Housing Council and National Apartment Association (Naahq) put out a joint press release stating: "This misguided proposal lays the groundwork for a rulemaking process at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) aimed at boosting competition yet would actually do the opposite. Bulk billing arrangements are pro-consumer and pro-renter... The Administration and the FCC should be looking for ways to support and elevate bulk billing arrangements to leverage historic federal resources to boost broadband access, not reduce options and in turn, potentially disconnect millions of American families." The Federal Communications Commission Chairwoman stated in her press release that ""Everyone deserves to have a choice of broadband provider...it is not right when your building or apartment complex chooses that service for you, saddling you with unwanted costs, and preventing you from signing up for the plan and provider you really want. This proposal shuts down these practices. It boosts competition and consumer choice and builds on our ongoing efforts to improve broadband transparency." Here's what I want to know from my #Multifamily owners, operators, and developers. How is this impacting your network infrastructure strategy? Are you bullish with #ManagedWiFi and bulk #internet agreements, regulations be damned? Are you playing it safe and keeping your #Connectivity diverse? Or - better yet, anyone out there have creative solutions that can be the best of both worlds?

What if your broadband just stopped working? The first thing you’d do is rush to your router to see what the problem is. Would you care so much if it held no importance to your life? We often underestimate its impact, taking it for granted. Picture a world without online meetings, access to information, or even texting. Alongside gas, water and electricity. Broadband is now considered the fourth utility. Despite this, most property listings around us fail to provide details around available speeds, providers, and packages for each property. But change is on the horizon - new legislation from the NTSELAT (National Trading Standards Estate and Lettings Agency Team) due to be announced early this autumn will require this information on all residential property listings. We're proud to lead this new era of transparency with the launch of Broadband Availability. BroadbandUK is leading the way with address-level data, empowering estate agents and home movers.

Landline services are changing in the UK. The old system will be switched off in 2025 and landlines will use broadband to make calls. If you rely on a landline, you will still be able to make calls but the technology that powers them will be different. The change means the landline will use the internet to make calls, rather than old copper network (known as PSTN, or public switched telephone network). The deadline for the switch is December 2025, but providers have already started moving people over. However, vulnerable Brits could be left without essential telecare services.
