We had an amazing time at the 3rd Annual Building BIG: A Construction Mixer at Franklin D. Roosevelt High School of Innovation! This fantastic event brings together General Contractors, Subcontractors, and Suppliers to connect with the Dallas Independent School District Construction Services & Bond Office and M/WBE Department. It’s always inspiring to learn about upcoming opportunities and strengthen our industry bonds. We're grateful for the chance to interact with our friends at DISD and across the industry. Here's to building bigger and better together! 🏗 #TransformingCommunities #ConstructionMixer #Networking #Design #Construction

Deputy Commissioner for Legal Affairs and General Counsel @ New York City Department of Design and Construction
NYC DDC - DBIA Liberty Region - New York Build Expo -- Great job this week by NYC DDC's Jade Bailey, Director of the Design-Build Unit, along with NYCHA, MTA, and the New York Power Authority with amazing audience support from Commissioner Foley, Assistant Commissioner Yvi McEvilly, Kayla Holmes, and NYC Parks' Laura Pavilonis. It is exciting to see how critical public work improvement projects are benefiting from having the right project delivery tool. Since NYS gave the City the authority to use this tool, NYC DDC has been selecting critical and complicated projects for this tool and the results are coming in. Design-build gives NYC DDC the right project delivery tool to finish projects faster and more efficiently. Of course, the real winners are the residents and businesses. The days of open construction projects dragging on for years are ending as this project delivery tool is utilized. If the City gets the authorization from NYS in 2024 to also use Progressive Design-build and CM-Build, then the paradigm for how projects are executed will change dramatically and all in favor of the residents and businesses. Exciting times for NYC DDC and everyone that will use the completed buildings or roadways
On February 14th, Jade Bailey, Director of the Design-Build Unit, participated in the New York Build Expo’s Future of Construction State panel on behalf of DDC and the DBIA Liberty Region Chapter. The panel included representatives from NYCHA, MTA, and the New York Power Authority, with a discussion on individual and collective journeys to successfully implement Design-Build as a delivery method. Commissioner Foley and Assistant Commissioner Yvi McEvilly were in attendance, alongside Kayla Hom from the Design-Build Unit as well as Laura Pavilonis from the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, whom we are working with very closely on many Design-Build pilot projects. Design-Build allows DDC to complete public projects faster and more efficiently, benefiting our partners in the design and construction process, our City, our sponsor agencies, and the New Yorkers who rely on our projects.

The video below raises a very important and misunderstood concept in Passive House (and EnerPHit): ➡ Contrary to popular opinion, there are no prescriptive U-Value limits for Passive House or EnerPHit by Energy Demand method. PHPP calculates "Typical" opaque U-Values that provide a starting point for PH Designers, based on their climate. These opaque U-Values are usually only relevant for single family homes and smaller buildings (with higher form factors) but more relaxed U-Values are often possible when the building form factor is low i.e. Apartment blocks. ➡ In buildings with a low form factor, the Building Regulations will usually set more stringent opaque U-Values than would be required to meet Passive House. ➡ Prescriptive U-Value limits do apply to refurbishments to EnerPHit by the Component Method. For a cool temperate climate, such as Ireland and most of the UK, that limit is 0.15 W/m².K, the exception being internally insulated walls, where the limit is 0.35 W/m².K ➡ Adding unnecessary levels of insulation increases the embodied emissions for the building and it can also add considerable cost, at a time when there is a need to ensure that designs are lean and cost optimal. ➡ Passive House Institute encourage building designers to avoid overdesign. MosArt fully agree with this and we always encourage our clients to avoid overdesign and we regularly advise our clients to relax U-Values, when there is a risk of overdesign. Passive House Association Ireland Tomas O'Leary, MD of MosArt
If you want to get into the weeds on how to build 547 Certified Passive House social and affordable homes using modern methods of construction, join me for a half-day CPD Accredited workshop on 21st February as part of the ZEB Summit in Dublin: https://zebsummit.com/

It’s construction season in Michigan and we know that could inconvenience our patients as they make their way to important appointments at Sparrow offices in downtown Lansing. We’ve put together a quick guide for navigating the detours and cones so you can get where you need to go without too much hassle. US-127 is being worked on from Michigan Avenue to I-96 with closures at the Trowbridge Road ramps and westbound I-96 ramps. The work at the US-127 and I-96 intersection is scheduled to be completed in June 2024 and the Trowbridge intersection work is scheduled to be completed in December 2024. To avoid those issues, consider the following: • If you are coming from the north or south, Cedar Street and Pennsylvania Avenue are open. • If you are coming from the east or west, Michigan Avenue is open. More information on these projects and on construction timelines can be found at https://bit.ly/43m366O.

Morning Sessions down at FOOTPRINT+ 8.30. Willmott Dixon. Early Engagement. An early start but this was a really good opener. Richard Bartlett spoke about trying to ‘flatten the cost curve’ through the work stages and then Basil Demeroutis spoke from a client perspective. Made a good point about most firms in construction having less than 10 employees - how to drive change (and competency) to them. I might steal his view on firms and regulations, that being firms that aren’t pioneering get mopped up by the regulations. Thought that was a nice take. 10.00. Retrofit Agenda. Poor sound throughout (later sorted for subsequent presentations). 10.45. MMC off-site, timber frame houses. Couple of bits picked up from Rachel Witcherley about how Homes England are assessing the success of MMC. 15 metrics make up the appraisal. Something worth reviewing. 11.30. New York Urban Policy. What a presentation. Shanta Tucker and Elie Gamburg take a bow. So interesting. A talk between the difference in approaches adopted by Boston, London and New York. Made too many notes to list here but will be following both of them with interest. This afternoon there’re a couple I’ll try and get down to… - Establishing the level of retrofit, and. - Optoppen. Vertical extensions. Missed the latter when they came into ARAD to talk at the last event. So be keen to hear what they say. It’s been a decent event so far though. First time attending. I did have tickets booked for UK Construction week, but opted for this due to the better seminar programme. . . . . #refurbishment #design #london #structures #structuralengineering #construction #building #structuraldesign #structure

Q: Hey Re:Vision, what are you doing for Earth Day? A: Hi! Thanks for asking! We’re celebrating the world’s FIRST Core Living Building Certified project at Muhlenberg College and we’re really excited about it! International Living Future Institute created the Core Living Building Certification using 10 non-negotiables from the Living Building Challenge as the baseline to make our communities good for everyone. We’re really proud of the work of the entire team on this project, which met certification requirements after demonstrating 12 months of energy and water use that were above requirements. We think Core Living Building certification is a game-changer for everyone who owns, designs, or constructs building projects. It’s a holistic look at what our building projects should be doing as an entry to regenerative practice, where our work can exist in balance – or as a benefit – to the natural, built, and social communities around it. Oh, and most of us biked, carpooled, took transit, or walked to work today. #AuthenticSustainability #CoreLivingBuildingCertified #EveryDayIsEarthDay #FirstInTheWorld Muhlenberg College The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company BSEG, LLC Thriven Design Keystone Consulting Engineers, Inc. Time to celebrate another #LivingFuture certification! This is not your typical certification. This is 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻! HUGE congrats to Fahy Commons at Muhlenberg College, located in Pennsylvania (USA), on achieving your Core certification (part of LBC 4.0)! Fahy Commons, designed by Re:Vision Architecture, is a 20,000 square foot building used by students, faculty and school administrators. While not a Core requirement, the team performed a post-occupancy evaluation. The majority of participants identified the building as beautiful, and a safe and healthy space. Students and staff alike requested to be in the building more than 'standard' hours because of how much they enjoyed being in the building. The project was able to exceed the energy performance requirements even with the unexpected additional use. This new building includes 29 #Declare products, 18 more than required, representing 13 manufactures including Wilsonart and Nucor Corporation. Last week, I attended the 2023 Charlotte Construction and Development Outlook Conference. Alongside other AEC directors, panelists, and prominent developers, the primary focus of the conversations was how developers in the Carolinas and other similar markets are adapting, evolving, and creatively structuring deals in the context of today’s constantly changing landscape to meet competitive market demands. It is important that all of us take part in these conversations to better understand how we can approach the challenges we may all be facing in the next year. As a Charlotte architect with more than 25 years of experience consulting in private development, this Bisnow Conference allowed me to engage with other professionals to chat about potential obstacles, new trends, and market predictions. In upcoming posts, I'll be reflecting on some of the most current highlights for the Queen City’s anticipated deals, significant projects, construction cost updates, market affordability, the impact of bank failures, the development outlook, and more. Stay tuned to learn more about the future of Charlotte and the greater U.S. market’s continued development and how it may impact you.

Euro Quality Coatings supplied 107 louvres as part of a colourful design scheme for Winterstoke Hundred Academy, a secondary school located just outside Weston-Super-Mare. The school embarked on a significant expansion project to accommodate up to 900 additional students. This expansion, funded by Homes England’s Housing Infrastructure Fund, aimed to provide modern teaching facilities to improve educational outcomes for students and serve the needs of the growing local community. The collaboration between EQC and project contractors exemplifies the successful integration of innovative design, quality materials, and environmental responsibility in educational infrastructure development. https://lnkd.in/e5v-vBtA #EQCQualityCoatings #InnovativeDesign #SustainableInfrastructure #PowderCoatingExcellence #EducationalArchitecture #EnvironmentalResponsibility #CollaborativeSuccess #AluminiumLouvres #AestheticEnhancement #SustainabilityGoal
