The most common objection I hear when calling a doctor about locum tenens is, "I don't have time, I'm way too busy as is," and they rush off of the phone. If given the opportunity, my next question is always, "Well, do you enjoy being way too busy and feeling stretched thin? Wouldn't you change that if you could?" What’s the difference between an IME and FCE? An Independent Medical Examination (IME) focuses on a medical condition or injury, and is conducted by a qualified Independent Medical Expert. A Functional Capacity Examination (FCE) is an assessment of physiological abilities and limitations and is typically performed by an Occupational Therapist (OT). And whilst these examinations are different - there are times when they are both needed! Our Red Plus service combines an IME with a customised functional capacity evaluation (FCELite) performed by an occupational therapist. Your final report will then combine the evidence from the FCELite (in regards to work capacity and daily living activities) with the medical findings from the IME!
